Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As a member of our hardworking engineering team, you will lead the Data Systems & Controls Engineering Software group responsible for building and maintaining advanced test systems and software for a variety of spaceflight systems spanning components, sub-assemblies, and vehicles. Our challenge is to deliver reliable data acquisition, control, and test automation platforms supporting the full lifecycle of space hardware development-from early concepts to flight readiness.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of software and controls engineers, including goal setting, task prioritization, performance reviews, and professional development.
  • Maintain and refine the team's long-range vision and strategy, championing continuous improvement of architecture, tools, and processes.
  • Collaborate with other groups across Blue Origin-including design, operations, quality, and program management-to ensure robust test infrastructure across all business units.
  • Contribute directly to technical work: designing software components, troubleshooting systems, and providing technical guidance, with an emphasis on data acquisition/control and test automation solutions.
  • Own and evolve best practices and standard operating procedures to ensure consistency, safety, and quality.
  • Foster open and effective communication within your team and across the organization.

While our existing solutions leverage LabVIEW, CompactRIO, CompactDAQ, PXI, C++, and related platforms, a strong background in general-purpose programming (such as, C++, Python, or similar languages) is valued and essential to this role as well.

Minimum Requirements:
  • B.S. degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience leading software development or data acquisition/control teams (personnel management, coaching, and technical mentorship).
  • 5+ years hands-on experience designing, developing, and deploying software for data acquisition, control, or test automation applications, including at least one of LabVIEW, C#, C++, Python, or similar languages.
  • Demonstrated skills in object-oriented design, software architecture, and quality-driven development processes.
  • Experience with Agile software development and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to break down complex technical problems, deliver high-quality solutions, and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience developing test solutions for rocket hardware, aerospace or mission-critical vehicles.
  • National Instruments certification - CLD, CLA, CLED, or equivalent professional credentials.
  • Knowledge of NI TestStand, real-time and FPGA software, and integration with control hardware.
  • Experience with process definition, improvement, and ownership.
  • Familiarity with sensors and actuators (e.g., pressure, temperature, LVDT, accelerometers, motion/servo controllers) and electrical control systems.
