Windows 365 and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) have recently been recognized as a leader in the inaugural Gartner Magic Quadrant for Desktop as a Service (DaaS). We are seeing tremendous customer pull from on premise Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) customers that want to modernize and move from on prem VDI to the cloud. Windows 365 and AVD combined are already a billion-dollar business today and we are seeing rapid growth in revenue and usage, this is one of the key horizon 2 growth areas in Windows Cloud Experiences.

Our ambition does not stop at generating multi billion dollar revenue by moving on prem VDI customers to the Microsoft cloud. We are building a plan to move Windows client to the cloud, we see a future that Windows is run from the cloud with unlimited yet flexible access to compute and storage. Microsoft took Office to the cloud and that became Office 365, Microsoft took Windows Server to the cloud and that became Azure, we are taking Windows to the cloud and that is Windows 365.

As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will help secure how users connect to their Windows PCs in the cloud using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) and establish the next level security against cyberthreats. You'll drive and design solutions to modernize authentication protocols, establish secure-by-default practices and lead customers to adopt phishing-resistant credentials no matter where they are located.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, or C++
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience as a software engineer designing, implementing, and shipping cloud services or software products


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in modern security protocols such as OpenSSL, NCrypt, OpenID, Entra, WebAuth and Yubikey
  • Experience in cyber security, and how to evaluate and mitigate risks
  • Experience in Windows Internals and distributed systems
  • Solid software development design, debugging and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to generate clarity in ambiguous situations
  • Passion for and ability to quickly understand emerging technologies
  • Demonsdtrated communication and collaboration skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented. Ability to quickly ramp up, understand complex problems, and create solutions across many products


Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and instrument code to improve performance and diagnosability while maintaining privacy
  • Work across multiple operating system (OS) architectures (but primarily Windows) to maintain authentication stacks on both Client and Server for RDP
  • Help raise standards for authentication and security in RDP by introducing new security features such as Conditional Access and pro-actively find security flaws
  • Work across multiple organizations in large security initiatives
  • Drive new alerts and tests to help catch regressions before they hit customers
  • Learn from customer feedback, incidents and data to discover new improvements
  • Mentor other developers in best practices for authentication and security across our organization
