Job Summary

The Automation & Reporting Specialist will design, develop, and maintain automation solutions and operational reports to improve IT service efficiency, accuracy, and visibility across City Hall IT operations. This role requires deep expertise in PowerShell, strong Python skills, and a solid understanding of ITIL v4 practices to support service management, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Automation & Scripting

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced PowerShell automation for system administration, user lifecycle management, monitoring, and remediation.
  • Build and support Python-based automation for data processing, integrations, and workflow orchestration.
  • Automate repetitive IT operations tasks to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Develop operational and management reports and dashboards for incidents, changes, assets, and service performance.
  • Extract, transform, and analyze data from IT systems, logs, and service management tools.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of reports to stakeholders.

IT Service Management (ITIL v4)

  • Align automation and reporting solutions with ITIL v4 practices (Incident, Problem, Change, Request, and Continual Improvement).
  • Support SLA, KPI, and OLA tracking through automated data collection and reporting.
  • Assist in process optimization and service improvement initiatives.

Integration & Collaboration

  • Integrate automation scripts with ITSM, monitoring, and infrastructure platforms.
  • Work closely with system administrators, service desk, and infrastructure teams to identify automation opportunities.
  • Document automation workflows, scripts, and reporting logic.

Governance & Security

  • Follow secure coding standards and change management procedures.
  • Ensure automation solutions meet compliance and audit requirements in a government environment.

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level PowerShell scripting (modules, functions, error handling, REST APIs).
  • Strong proficiency in Python for automation, data analysis, and integrations.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL v4 framework and service management processes.
  • Experience working with Windows-based infrastructure and enterprise IT environments.

Professional Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent documentation and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ITSM platforms (ServiceNow or similar).
  • Knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, XML, and data integration techniques.
  • Experience in public-sector or municipal IT environments.
  • ITIL v4 certification is a plus.
