Title: Engineer/Technician External Network
Location: Montreal 2 days per week at the client's office. Candidates must be located in Quebec
Duration: Until December 31, 2026 40 hours per week
Job Description:
Tasks:
A large part of the tasks performed by designers (engineer or technician) are within the scope of projects. The main tasks of the designer are:
Conduct site surveys and inspections (notes, photos, details) and write or validate associated reports;
Write the technical section of mandates for professional services required in the project and validate engineering deliverables produced by firms;
Perform technical calculations, schematics, and details;
Produce complete and detailed engineering plans and specifications;
Define components and list required materials and material order forms;
Provide technical support during the execution of work and commissioning, and participate in deployment planning;
Ensure the update of inventory systems and overall telecommunications network diagrams;
Assist, if necessary, the project manager in establishing the project schedule by identifying issues and technical dependencies affecting the project.
Outside the scope of projects, designers (engineer or technician) may also be called upon to work on the following tasks:
Participate in drafting standards and technical guides to implement best practices within the company;
Participate in the technical aspects of the approval and acquisition process for new equipment;
Provide technical support and assistance to operations in case of network failures;
Guide operational practices to ensure continuity of services;
Provide technical support for network planning and architecture activities;
Develop telecommunication equipment configurations, ensure configuration compliance, and oversee network configuration changes and production deployment strategies.
To comply with the laws and regulations governing engineering practice in Quebec, the design engineer will also have, in addition to the tasks mentioned above, the responsibility when involved to:
Verify design activities;
Sign and seal plans, specifications, technical reports, technical calculations, or any other technical support documents (such as guides, specifications, notices, or standards) that he/she produces or writes, alone or in collaboration, as part of projects.
The candidate must meet the following qualifications:
Required:
Must meet one of the following criteria:
Minimum 6 years of experience as a telecom engineer (an engineering background in civil engineering is an asset);
OR
Minimum 6 years of experience as a technician in external network cabling (must hold a college diploma [DEC] in technology or equivalent);
OR
10 years of experience in telecommunications with a diploma other than engineering (please specify the degree obtained);
Valid driver s license in Quebec;
Experience in planning and designing deployments of fiber optic and copper pair cable networks, primarily outside buildings (please detail relevant experience);
Expertise in external network cabling;
Ability to travel across the province of Quebec using various means of transportation (air and land), when required (e.g., site visits, meetings, training);
Solid experience in telecommunications network planning and design;
Knowledge of standards for the installation and connection of fiber optic and copper pair cables in aerial, underground, conduit, and duct configurations;
Knowledge of support structures for cables (DUSS, conduits, and poles);
Language: French
Asset:
Possession of the ASP construction card (issued by the Joint Association for Occupational Health and Safety in the Construction Sector)
