Kong API Gateway Engineer
12 Months
Fort Mill, SC (3 days/week onsite)

Key Responsibilities
API Gateway Management: Deploy, configure, and manage Kong API Gateway across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments.
API Development & Integration: Design and implement APIs, custom plugins, and backend integrations. Strong API orchestration knowledge required.
Security & Performance: Enforce API security (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS), ensure high availability, and optimize performance.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Set up monitoring/logging (Dynatrace, ELK) and proactively resolve API issues.
Collaboration & Documentation: Work with Dev, Ops, and Security teams; maintain clear API and config documentation.
Automation & Best Practices: Support CI/CD processes, implement Terraform-based automation, and promote API management best practices.

Required Qualifications
Kong Expertise: Hands-on experience with Kong architecture, configuration, and plugin development.
API & Security Standards: Strong grasp of RESTful APIs, OpenAPI, OIDC, and microservices.
DevOps & Scripting: Proficiency in Lua/Python; experience with Git, GitHub Actions, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes.
Cloud & Security: Familiarity with AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform and API security tools (OAuth, OIDC, Auth0).
Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, debugging, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Desired Qualifications
Kong or related technical certifications.
Experience with API testing tools (Postman, JMeter, Insomnia).
Knowledge of integration platforms (IBM DataPower, WebSphere MQ).
Experience with Confluence for documentation.
