Job Description:
UI/UX Tableau Designer & Developer

Location: Westlake, TX; Hybrid - 3x onsite

Equipment: All hardware, access badges, and parking provided

Pay: $45-$50/hr; Must be able to work on a W2 without sponsorship

Duration: 12 month contract with potential to go full time
Summary

We are seeking a uniquely skilled UI/UX Designer & Tableau Developer-someone who blends creative design instincts with strong Tableau development capabilities. This role is responsible for designing, building, and enhancing executive-level dashboards that are visually refined, intuitive to use, and technically advanced.

The ideal candidate is a true hybrid: a designer who understands user experience deeply and a developer who can translate that vision directly into production-ready Tableau dashboards. You'll collaborate closely with data engineers, improve existing dashboards, drive UX best practices, and help shape the future of the business's analytics experience.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Design and develop executive-level Tableau dashboards with exceptional visual clarity, alignment, and consistency.
  • Apply strong UI/UX principles to improve usability, navigation, page layout, and interaction flows.
  • Build dashboards using advanced Tableau features, including calculations, parameters, logic, and performance optimization techniques.
  • Work within Tableau Server (2024; migrating to 2025) and provide feedback during the upgrade process.
  • Test dashboards for errors, performance, and usability-especially during platform migrations.
  • Partner with Data Engineering (ETL owned by that team); collaborate on data issues and dependencies.
  • Use SQL to validate data sources, troubleshoot data inconsistencies, and understand underlying tables.
  • Review and reverse-engineer approximately 20 existing dashboards, proposing UX/UI improvements or redesigns.
  • Build new dashboards, enhancements, and features as business needs evolve.
  • Multitask across multiple dashboards, including handling urgent break/fix situations ("firefighting").
  • Proactively share design ideas, propose alternative approaches, and advocate for UX-driven improvements.
  • Maintain meticulous attention to detail-fonts, spacing, alignment, and formatting should always be flawless.
Qualifications
  • Proven UI/UX design experience, with a clean, modern visual style.
  • Hands-on ability to design and build directly in Tableau (not just wireframe or mock-up skills).
  • Strong experience with advanced Tableau calculations, parameters, actions, and dashboard performance tuning.
  • Portfolio showcasing UI/UX work-ideally including Tableau dashboards but not required.
  • Extreme attention to detail and a commitment to producing polished, highly consistent work.
  • Ability to manage multiple dashboards simultaneously and balance planned work with urgent issues.
  • Strong initiative, ownership, and high personal standards for quality and output.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to voice suggestions, ideas, and improvements.
  • Some SQL experience (reading queries, validating data, troubleshooting data sources).
