Programmatic need being met by this request : The West Valley Site Management Program (WVSMP) requires a Senior Advisor to support Phase 2 decision-making as well as expertise with evaluating groundwater data across the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP).

General Guidance for Expected Years of Experience: 7+ years

What skills are needed to be successful in this role?

  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. NRC regulations and guidance documents;
  • Technical and non-technical policy matters relating to nuclear decommissioning;
  • Must be able to formulate technically robust and thoughtful policy solutions for addressing technical challenges confronting Client as Phase 2 decisions are being formulated; and
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills.

Are there any specialized skills that must be present for the position to be successful?

  • Robust experience with GoldSim, as the GoldSim platform is required to run the current performance assessment model;
  • Understanding of the complexities with decommissioning the West Valley site (WVDP, SDA, Retained Premises and how they interrelate);
  • Commensurate with over 10 years of experience working with and developing models in GoldSim;
  • 10+ years of experience as a regulator on nuclear matters;
  • A Deep understanding of NRC regulations and guidance documents; specifically NUREG-1757, and guidance associated with Waste Incidental to Reprocessing (WIR).

Certifications and qualifications, including education/degree

  • Required: Advanced degree in nuclear and/or environmental engineering

Tasks

  • Support the development of Phase 2 Alternatives to be considered in the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement;
  • Assist with analyzing recent ground water sampling and trends across the WVDP;
  • Review of the GoldSim model;
  • Assist with developing briefing material for senior levels of State Government that will drive decision-making at the site;
  • Lead uncertainty analysis and model verification efforts within the WVSMP in support of Phase 2 decisions; and
  • Other duties as assigned that contribute to the key outcomes of the West Valley Site Management Program.
