Summary:

Janney is seeking a skilled and motivated Database Developer to design and maintain efficient, scalable data solutions across both on-premise and cloud environments. This role is critical to building and optimizing data transformation pipelines on SQL Server and Snowflake platforms, with a strong emphasis on query performance tuning, Python scripting, and modern data integration practices.

As part of a collaborative, innovation-driven team, this position contributes to high-impact financial data initiatives while supporting the continued advancement of cloud architecture, automation, and enterprise-scale data systems. The role also plays a key part in Janney’s data modernization efforts by leveraging tools such as SSIS, SSRS, Visual Studio, and SnowSQL to support both legacy and cloud-native platforms.

This is a hybrid position, requiring at least one in-office day per week at the Philadelphia headquarters, based on successful onboarding, performance, and managerial discretion.

 

 

Essential Qualifications:

  • Advanced expertise in SQL Server, including development with SSIS, SSRS, and Visual Studio.
  • Experience designing and implementing high-volume, reliable database solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake, particularly with features such as SnowSQL, Streams, Tasks, and data sharing.
  • Proficiency in Python for data scripting, transformation, or process automation.
  • Familiarity with AWS or similar cloud platforms, with a focus on hybrid and cloud-native data architecture.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL is a plus
  • Strong understanding of data governance, security, and enterprise data management best practices.
  • Excellent technical documentation and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Prior experience in the financial services or wealth management sector is a plus.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).

Required skills/competencies:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience as a Database Developer, with a proven track record of developing and maintaining high-performing, scalable database systems.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL Server development, query optimization, and integration tools (SSIS/SSRS).
  • Experience with Snowflake and modern cloud-based data solutions.
  • Proficiency with Python for scripting, analytics, and automation tasks.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to create clear, concise technical documentation.
  • Effective communication with technical peers and business stakeholders alike.
  • Ongoing commitment to staying current with emerging technologies and industry best practices.
  • Previous experience working in the wealth management or financial services sector is preferred, with an understanding of industry-specific data challenges and requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performing SQL Server databases, stored procedures, and integration solutions using SSIS, SSRS, and Visual Studio database projects.
  • Analyze and optimize database queries, indexes, and performance across large, complex transactional environments.
  • Build and enhance ETL and data movement processes between on-premise and cloud platforms.
  • Support and enhance Snowflake development, including implementation of SnowSQL, Streams, Tasks, Snowpipe, and stored procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver timely, effective solutions.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for system improvements, performance tuning, and data architecture modernization.
  • Ensure clear, comprehensive documentation of systems, processes, and data flows.
  • Provide off-hours production support on a rotational basis.
