Job Description:
Apex is seeking a Post-Doc Chemist for a long term renewable contract with one of the worlds largest producers and marketers of tobacco, cigarettes and related products.
Liquid formulation characterization and design
Position Description
In this role, the individual will build competences and conduct high level research to inform the design and development of liquid aerosol-based tobacco harm reduction products. The individual should have strong background in fluid mechanics and interfacial science. The position interfaces with cross-functional teams, providing input for experimental design and ensuring deliverable insights that inform innovative product technologies and designs.

The position interfaces with cross-functional teams, providing input for experimental design and ensuring deliverable insights that inform innovative product technologies and designs.
Major Responsibilities
  • Responsible for investigating, developing, and transferring knowledge regarding liquid flow mechanisms through various porous and nonporous media, and microfluidics.
  • Build and deploy analytical capabilities to assess the physical properties and characteristics of liquids, establishing relationships between liquid properties, interactions with surfaces, and flow through various media.
  • Assess the impact of formulation composition on the liquid properties and performance within various thermal and non-thermal aerosol formation devices.
  • Using principles of fluid mechanics/dynamics and interfacial science, create predictive models to inform formulation and device design/optimization activities.
  • Assess the impact of formulation composition and properties on properties of aerosols produced by thermal and non-thermal aerosol formation devices (i.e. particle size distribution).
  • Maintain state-of-the-art depth and breadth of knowledge of fluid mechanics and dynamics, and microfluidics, keeping abreast of latest literature, patents, and advances.

Qualifications
  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or related scientific field.
  • Expertise in studying the physical properties and characteristics of liquids and the movement of liquids through various porous and nonporous media, and microfluidics.
  • Fundamental knowledge of fluid mechanics and dynamics, especially for liquids, as well as thermodynamics of complex fluids (such as phase behaviors and transitions).
  • Experience in measuring and modifying physical properties of liquids (such as viscosity, surface tension) and the interaction of liquids with surfaces (such as contact angle, surface energy)
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal and presentation) along with demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team and to lead research initiatives.
