Job Description:
- The Senior SQL Server Database Administrator will be responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing management of SQL Server database solutions across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.
- This role requires advanced expertise in SQL Server administration, performance tuning, HA/DR architecture, automation, and security.
- The successful candidate will collaborate closely with project teams, developers, and IT stakeholders to ensure highly available, secure, and scalable database environments that support business-critical applications.
- Design, plan, and implement SQL Server database solutions in on-premises and cloud environments.
- Manage and maintain multiple SQL Server versions, including cross-server connectivity.
- Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot SQL Server instances in physical, virtual, and Azure VM environments.
- Install, configure, and support high availability and disaster recovery architectures (e.g., AlwaysOn Availability Groups).
- Oversee SQL encryption processes and ensure data security compliance.
- Plan and execute migrations from legacy SQL Server versions to modern systems and cloud platforms.
- Perform database tuning and optimization using industry-standard tools and methodologies.
- Resolve issues related to database integrity, performance, blocking, deadlocking, log shipping, connectivity, and security.
- Automate database administration tasks through scripting.
- Conduct backups, restores, and manage recovery models to ensure recoverability.
- Propose and implement improvements for monitoring, administration, and security.
- Document all database changes in alignment with Change Management protocols.
- Monitor and analyze activity to proactively prevent incidents and recommend enhancements.
- Participate in incident response and ensure timely resolution of database issues.
- Test and evaluate new SQL Server and DBMS software releases for impact.
- Maintain the integrity of all database objects including structures, statistics, and indexes.
- Identify and remediate security violations promptly.
- Utilize SQL Trace, System Monitor, Activity Monitor, and Database Engine Tuning Advisor for diagnostics and tuning.
- Apply Microsoft Service Pack patching procedures.
- Assess emerging database technologies to improve administration and operational efficiency.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in SQL Server database administration and design.
- Advanced expertise in T-SQL performance tuning.
- Strong proficiency in Windows scripting for automation.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Strong organizational, time management, and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work independently and handle high-pressure, on-call situations.
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience managing multiple SQL Server versions in parallel and configuring cross-server connectivity.
- Hands-on experience with SQL Server on Azure VMs and hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) configuration and troubleshooting.
- Experience migrating SQL Server data from on-premises to Azure.
- Effective communication skills for working with developers, testers, and configuration managers.
