Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week, at minimum.

The Team:

At General Motors, our Mainframe Ecosystem team is expanding and looking for talented individuals to join our Software Development and Platform Engineering groups. These teams play a vital role in GM's ongoing Mainframe Transformation, delivering horizontal shared services that enable modern software and systems engineering practices.

What You'll Do:

As a Systems Engineer at GM, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies in a global organization that values innovation. You'll help modernize our worldwide technology platform while gaining hands-on experience with impactful, real-world projects. You will be joining a highly collaborative, increasingly Agile environment and take on a key role in shaping the future of the GM Mainframe ecosystem. This position is ideal for someone with strong systems engineering fundamentals, a positive attitude, and a genuine eagerness to learn and grow.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with global teams, communicating effectively with a positive, solutions-focused mindset.
  • Design and build innovative solutions that address real-world challenges while ensuring quality and timely delivery.
  • Break projects into actionable tasks, estimate timelines accurately, and deliver incremental value.
  • Investigate issues, perform root-cause analysis, and develop quick prototypes to validate solutions.
  • Keep your team updated through regular progress communication.
  • Drive innovation by championing modern engineering practices such as test-driven development, continuous integration, and automated delivery pipelines.


Technical Skills - [Comprehensive Training Provided]

Experience in some (or all) of the following areas. Please note full training will be provided on specific tools, technologies, and processes.

Systems Engineer Skills:
  • Agile and Scrum methodologies
  • Cloud computing and Virtualization
  • Networking and Security
  • OS and Database Platforms
  • Programming / scripting / automation tools


Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • A proactive mindset with a drive to deliver results and improve processes
  • The ability to collaborate effectively and build strong working relationships
  • A strong technical aptitude and a desire to learn new tools, technologies, and practices
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic
  • Able to work full time, 40 hours a week

  • IBM Mainframe Product Set
