Staff Security Engineer | Network Security Firewall

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Network Security Engineer to join our Firewall Engineering Team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-grade network security solutions. The ideal candidate will lead firewall architecture initiatives, support migration from legacy platforms, and ensure compliance with internal security standards and external regulations. This position plays a critical role in protecting the organization's infrastructure and enabling secure business operations.
Required Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of experience in network security engineering or related field
• Expertise in Palo Alto, Cisco FTD, and ASA firewall platforms, including policy management, NAT configurations, and zone-based architecture
• Hands-on experience with Palo Alto Panorama for centralized firewall management
• Experience implementing and tuning Palo Alto App-ID, User-ID, and Threat Prevention features
• Familiarity with migrating from other vendors to Palo Alto Networks firewalls using automated methods
• Strong understanding of proxy technology, proxy bypass strategies, and traffic steering using PBF
• Experience with Zscaler Cloud Connector and GRE tunnel deployments
• Familiarity with Minimum Security Baseline (MSB) and Privileged Access Management (PAM) frameworks
• Proven ability to troubleshoot performance and connectivity issues using tools like ThousandEyes
• Working knowledge of Python and experience applying network security automation techniques in operational environments
• Strong documentation skills, including weekly updates using the Firewall Engineering weekly update standard

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cloud security in Azure or Google Cloud Platform environments
• Certifications such as CISSP, PCNSE, CCNP Security, or equivalent
• Experience leading enterprise firewall migration projects
• Familiarity with Flex licensing and infrastructure lifecycle planning
• Knowledge of endpoint protection, data loss prevention, and secure collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams)

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Network Engineering, or related field (Required)
• Master's degree in Cybersecurity or related discipline (Preferred)
• Equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$142,140.00 - $284,280.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
