Azure Admin Job Profile - Intermediate
An Azure Administrator with intermediate skills manages, optimizes, secures, and automates daily operations across diverse Azure cloud environments, bridging foundational technical expertise with growing leadership and troubleshooting capabilities.
Core Responsibilities
- Resource & Subscription Management: Oversee Azure subscriptions and resource groups, enforce governance policies, and track usage/costs for optimal organizational alignment and cost efficiency.
- Networking: Configure and maintain virtual networks, subnets, VPN gateways, load balancers, and network security groups; support hybrid cloud connections and secure traffic flow.
- Storage Solutions: Design, implement, and manage storage accounts, Azure Blob storage, file shares, backups, and replication strategies, ensuring secure and available data.
- Security & Compliance: Implement role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, identity management (Azure AD/Entra ID), threat detection, and compliance policies in line with organizational or industry standards.
- Automation: Create and manage automation scripts (PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates) for provisioning, patching, resource deployment, and streamlining repetitive tasks.
- Monitoring & Optimization: Continuously monitor Azure resources for performance, availability, and security; troubleshoot issues, analyze logs, and implement improvements/savings measures.
- Server Support: General Windows and Linux understanding. Ability to work with VMs both during new setups and troubleshooting issues.
- Backup & Disaster Recovery: Establish, monitor, and test business continuity plans including backup, restore, and failover solutions.
- Documentation & Process Sharing: Maintain detailed documentation of architecture, configurations, change management, and incident resolution; contribute to team knowledge sharing and training.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Solid grasp of Azure services: compute (VMs), networking (VNets), storage, security, and identity; hands-on experience with Azure Portal, CLI, PowerShell, and ARM.
- Soft Skills: Analytical thinking, proactive problem-solving, strong communication/documentation, teamwork, and passion for continual learning.
- Experience: 2 5 years in IT/cloud administration, with at least 1 3 years focused on Azure environments.
Typical Day-to-Day Tasks
- Restart/deploy VMs, scale resources, and automate operational support scripts.
- Enforce policies and standards across deployments for security and compliance.
- Troubleshoot resource, network, and identity issues, escalating complex incidents as required.
- Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams for effective cloud environment integration.
An intermediate Azure Administrator is expected to deliver technical solutions, automate manual tasks, safeguard cloud resources, and act as a technical point of contact for cloud-related escalations and improvements.
