Description: Our client is currently seeking a Defense Engineering Technician
This is onsite in Monroe, NC - must be able to make this commute.
6-month contract with potential extensions.
About the Role
As a Manufacturing Process Engineer, you'll act as the key liaison between Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, and cross-functional teams including Design Engineering, Quality, and Customer Service. You'll develop and optimize manufacturing methods for complex machined parts and assemblies, ensuring they meet design and quality standards. This role also supports Lean Manufacturing initiatives such as setup reduction and Kaizen events.

About the Role
As a Manufacturing Process Engineer, you'll act as the key liaison between Manufacturing, Manufacturing Engineering, and cross-functional teams including Design Engineering, Quality, and Customer Service. You'll develop and optimize manufacturing methods for complex machined parts and assemblies, ensuring they meet design and quality standards. This role also supports Lean Manufacturing initiatives such as setup reduction and Kaizen events.
Responsibilities
- Develop and document complete manufacturing processes and routing for machined parts to reduce scrap and lead time.
- Conduct process analysis using techniques like milling, grinding, turning, and heat treating; collaborate with suppliers and gather operator feedback.
- Design and implement fixtures and gauges for machined components.
- Identify root causes of failures using statistical tools (DOE, SPC) and recommend design or process changes.
- Lead continuous improvement projects including TPM, 5S, and setup reduction aligned with Lean principles.
- Evaluate product designs for manufacturability and provide feedback to design teams.
- Interpret part and assembly drawings using GD&T and drafting standards.
- Stay current with industry trends through workshops, publications, networking, and professional associations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, and AutoCAD (or similar CAD software).
- Basic experience with 3D modeling tools (preferred).
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguous or non-standardized situations.
- Solid understanding of statistical and geometric principles including probability, trigonometry, and GD&T.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and communicate effectively with teams and customers.
Education & Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Exposure to basic programming (preferred).
