Brasfield & Gorrie is seeking a skilled and driven Systems Engineer to join our team onsite in our office located in Birmingham, Alabama. This role will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining our core systems infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies, hybrid identity architecture, and scripting-playing a key role in enhancing scalability, security, and operational efficiency across our environment.

Brasfield & Gorrie is seeking a skilled and driven Systems Engineer to join our team onsite in our office located in Birmingham, Alabama. This role will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining our core systems infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Microsoft technologies, hybrid identity architecture, and scripting-playing a key role in enhancing scalability, security, and operational efficiency across our environment.
- Microsoft 365 Administration:
- Manage and optimize Office 365 services including Exchange, Exchange Online, and Teams
- Hybrid Identity Management:
- Design, implement, and maintain hybrid identity solutions by integrating on-premises Active Directory and Exchange Server with Microsoft 365 services
- Design, implement, and maintain synchronization (Entra ID Connect, SSO, conditional access, etc.)
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Azure and its associated services and resources
- Automation & Scripting:
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools using PowerShell
- Streamline identity, messaging, and infrastructure management tasks
- Messaging & Identity Security:
- Work with on-premises Exchange and Exchange Online, mail routing, anti-spam/phishing solutions, and identity protection mechanisms
- Assist with implementation and tuning of conditional access, MFA, and other identity protection tools
- Familiar with Microsoft Purview for managing compliance and legal requirements
- Monitoring and Optimization:
- Implement and manage system health monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including security, networking, Systems, and support for smooth operation and projects
Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience
- 3-5+ years of experience in a systems engineering, infrastructure, or cloud operations role
- Proven experience with:
- Office 365 administration
- Microsoft Entra ID and on-prem Active Directory
- Azure infrastructure services.
- Identity synchronization tools (e.g., Azure AD Connect)
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and operational tasks
- Solid understanding of messaging systems and identity/access management concepts
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Quick learner with a proactive mindset and minimal need for oversight
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft certifications
- Hands-on experience with modern management tools
- Exposure to hybrid cloud implementations
