Overview

Engineering position located at Newport News, VA at the ELO office working for Delano Wilson.

Position will be required to provide technical resolutions for a variety of complex construction issues for COLUMBIA Class Submarines at Newport News Shipyard (NNS). Job will require occasional shipboard investigation on units and modules under various stages of construction.

Candidate will be responsible for adjudicating construction and vendor issues for a wide variety of mechanical and structural deviations, requiring the candidate to have proficient knowledge and understanding of basic mechanical engineering principles and have the ability to perform simple and complex calculations to ensure technical adequacy.

Chosen engineer will interface with NNS Trades, construction foreman and engineering while developing timely resolutions in consideration of an aggressive construction schedule and may be required to develop calculations to support as-built conditions. Interfacing with EB cognizant engineering, materials, planning, welding, shock, and analysis departments will also be required. Candidate must also possess strong written and verbal skills and work well with program office, management and Supervisor of Shipbuilding (SoS). Time flexibility is required as work load can require occasional extended hours and weekends.

This position will primarily focus on CLB construction and will require significant use of Teamcenter. Experience in this program is desirable; however, is not required

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Naval Architecture, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Marine Engineering
  • 5+ years of postgraduate engineering experience

Preferred:
  • Exposure to NX/Team Center
  • Construction experience
  • Military/Navy Experience
  • Working knowledge of MRP, Electronic Desktop, Team Center and PCM is desirable
  • Prior experience with ship-checks in Industrial Environment
  • Experience with FEA
  • Experience with Technical Publications regarding welding and inspection requirements
  • Working as a mentor
  • Knowledge of Special Emphasis programs
