Job Title: Data Links Systems Engineer
Salary: $110,000 - $150,000 DOE
Job Type: Direct Hire
Location: 100% Onsite - San Diego, CA 92107
Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Data Links Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of Tactical Data Link (TDL) systems within Software-Defined Radio (SDR) platforms. This is a highly technical, engineering-focused role requiring deep expertise in building robust data link capabilities to support high-performance, mission-critical defense communications. You will play a central role in architecting secure, interoperable, and scalable TDL solutions to enable seamless communication between platforms, services, and systems.
Responsibilities:
- Architect, design, and build Tactical Data Link systems that enable real-time, secure communication across military platforms
- Develop system-level solutions that integrate wideband communication systems with SDR and mission-critical networking environments
- Customize and implement data link protocols (e.g., CDL, Link-16, Link-22) to ensure multi-service interoperability
- Design and execute simulation or modeling of TDL systems using tools such as MATLAB, Python, Octave, or C++
- Collaborate on RF integration and interface definition with hardware/software teams
- Author and maintain system documentation, including System Performance Specifications, System Design Documents, and Interface Control Documents
- Participate in lab-based prototype testing and validation of data link system capabilities
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field
- 7+ years of Systems Engineering experience, including direct work with Tactical Data Links or Wideband Communications Systems
- Strong hands-on proficiency in MATLAB, Python, Octave, and C++ for simulation, modeling, or implementation of communications systems
- Experience with key system engineering documents: SPS, SDD, IRS, IDD, or equivalent
- Working knowledge of RF systems, waveform fundamentals, and signal processing
- In-depth understanding of networking protocols and how they integrate into mission-critical TDL systems
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation and collaboration
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active U.S. Government Security Clearance
- Experience with Cisco IOS, router/switch configuration
- Familiarity with proof-of-concept prototype development
- Exposure to waveform design and real-time communications system architecture
