Job Title: Telecom Field Technician/Engineer
Job Location: Any US Location - Highly hands-on, customer-facing, and travel-heavy.
Job Description:
Summary: The Customer Support FE will travel extensively to provide on-site implementation and troubleshooting at a customer s Central Office, Network Operations Center, POPs, or lab. The FE can support network verification activities and, following the turn-up of the network, provide day-to-day fault management support of the Ribbon-based, packet optical network. In addition, the FE can assist in managing the day-to-day process of integrating and implementing new elements of the Ribbon-based network. Project focus is on Ribbon equipment installation and integration. The FE works jointly with the customer s personnel in the following activities:
- Network verification.
- Support the customer self-sufficiency transition plan.
- Provide technical escalation support.
Requirements:
- Must embrace a demanding travel schedule.
- Must be familiar with Verizon and/or ATT Central Office physical layout, installation standards, and operations.
- Time management is critical. Conduct site survey, complete Order Capture Worksheet, meet deadlines for reports, submit site survey package, including bill of materials per customer requirement.
- Must be proficient with AutoCAD and customer s material ordering system.
- The FE will have direct interaction with customers, peers, and the engineering and sales teams and must have expert customer-facing communication skills.
- Create cable path design maps for fiber and copper cables, connectors and termination points.
- Troubleshooting techniques and fault-isolation skills may be helpful.
- The FE should have hands-on experience with packet optical networking technologies, and a working knowledge of typical client-side interfaces.
- Also, experience with industry-standard protocols including Gigabit ethernet, 10G, 100G, 400G, SONET, and SDH/TDM is required.
- Must be familiar with customer network installation standards such as Verizon IP72202.
- Must have US or state government issued Real ID, or US Passport.
- Compile list of required material types, cables, quantities, and cable lengths, and equipment to complete the requested customer work order.
- Prepares and issues detailed job specifications and drawings prior to installation start date.
Qualifications:
- Technical documentation, incident management and reporting experience is required
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of optical DWDM, flex-grid reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM), Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON), Layer 2 Ethernet, and Layer 3 IP-MPLS, MPLS-TP, and Network Management platforms, may be helpful.
Required Education/Experience and Competencies:
- BA/BS preferred, will consider High School Diploma.
- Must have at least 5 years Central Office and 5-10 years optical networking experience is required.
- Must be proficient with Central Office optical and digital network, installation, commissioning, and integration.
- 5+ years experience with integration and maintenance of Service Provider Optical Network equipment from ECI, ADTRAN, Cisco, Ciena, etc.
- Optical networking expertise with equipment such as Raman Amplifier, EDFA and DACS
- Must have US or state government issued REAL ID, or US Passport.
- Familiar with provisioning orders, wiring and troubleshooting process and procedures.
- Ability to train and /or share knowledge of optical networking and installation.
- Maintain a positive attitude and work as a contributing team player.
