Job Title: Lead UI/UX Designer
Location: Madison, WI
Remote/Onsite: Hybrid Onsite Day 1, then 1x/month (or as needed)
Contract Duration: Through 04/06/2026 (Potential multi-year extensions)

Project Overview:

Agency is undertaking a full-scale modernization of its case management system through the project. This role will be pivotal in leading the UX design effort on a high-visibility, high-impact initiative supporting individuals with disabilities statewide.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the Lead UX Designer on a major development project, driving technology modernization efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (developers, analysts, product owners) to simplify and modernize user experience and workflows.
  • Leverage a material design library and component framework (e.g., MudBlazor) to implement consistent, modern design standards.
  • Create and iterate wireframes and prototypes, integrating feedback from stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Develop personas and conduct usability testing to ensure designs meet the needs of diverse users.
  • Apply knowledge of modern code implementations, US Web Design Standards, and product strategy to guide user-centric design.

Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years' experience as a lead designer on a development project involving technology modernization.
  • 4+ years' experience creating wireframes/prototypes and iterating with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • 4+ years' experience in creating user personas and testing designs against them.
  • 4+ years of strong knowledge in modern web development standards, code-aware design, and product strategy.

Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • 2+ years working within Agile principles and processes.
  • 1+ year direct experience using MudBlazor.
  • 2+ years experience training developers and analysts on UX principles and best practices.
  • Prior experience working with government clients.
