Our client needs a VP of Technology. This role requires a dynamic and versatile leader with the skills and experience required to implement technology solutions, minor and major, throughout the organization. It necessitates a balanced mix of strategic planning and practical implementation, coupled with a thorough grasp of the issues and/or prospects we are aiming to address.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Overall accountability for developing and executing technology strategy, ensuring we have the capability, systems, partnerships, and staff to achieve our strategic goals.
  • Lead, manage, and performance review all Technology staff.
  • Identify and Implement technology solutions that support and achieve strategic goals by collaborating with the Strategic Planning Team in setting the multi-year/annual business and technology goals. 
    • Meet annually to review plans and ensure goals align with corporate aspirations. Participate in plan building at least every 3 years.
  • Keep everyone informed about the status of new and ongoing technology projects, both the leadership and the staff.
  • Modernize technology by monitoring industry evolutions, innovating, and delivering solutions to meet customer demand today and in the future.
  • This role holds primary accountability over:
    • continually protecting, securing, and mitigating all systems, data, and users from cyber threats.
    • Ensuring network and systems are always modern, prepared, and capable of maximizing employee productivity and customer experience.
    • Minimizing employee downtime and ensuring satisfaction throughout internal and external support functions
    • Manage relationships, modernize, and continually monitor the performance of critical IT partners, minimizing disruptions to operations and maximizing productivity.
    • Ensure consistent approach, control, and monitoring of equipment.
    • Optimize data warehouse structure to support reporting requirements.
    • Monitor all customer interfaces to ensure consistent and stable public access to resources.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership and Involvement: Implement and evolve a Technology strategy that aligns with our business objectives by focusing on applications, integration, and innovation to support business growth and enhance operational efficiency.
    • Integrate IT and leverage operational knowledge across the organization to bring creative solutions to the leadership team to help exceed sales, operations, and accounting goals.
  • Collaborate with company managers to quantify and prioritize resources for all Technology opportunities to optimize ROI, profit, customer satisfaction, efficiencies and/or customer satisfaction.
    • Identify the need for upgrades, configurations, or new systems and report to the executive team.
  • Cybersecurity and Compliance: Ensure Technology systems and applications adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements for data security, privacy, and compliance. Implement robust cybersecurity measures and proactive risk mitigation strategies to safeguard digital assets and data.
  • Application Management: Oversee the lifecycle management of all enterprise applications to ensure they meet business requirements, adhere to industry best practices, and deliver measurable value throughout the lifecycle.
  • Technology Evaluation and Adoption: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in application development, integration architecture, and Technology management. Evaluate new technologies and tools to determine their potential to drive business value and competitive advantage and recommend adoption strategies accordingly.
  • Integration Architecture:  Design and implement reliable integration architecture frameworks that ensure smooth data flow and communication between different systems within and outside the organization. Lead the development of APIs, middleware solutions, and data integration strategies that streamline business processes and improve decision-making abilities.
  • Vendor Management: Ensure timely delivery of high-quality services, monitor vendor performance, and optimize costs by managing Technology vendor relationships and performance.
  • Team Leadership and Development:  Lead and guide a high-performing Technology team to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability, setting clear goals and expectations while empowering team members to achieve excellence in their respective roles.
  • Spend a portion of time involved in writing code to develop solutions internally and externally.
  • Attending and participating in technology conferences germane to our missions.
  • Establish and build relationships with Tucker’s top customers and their technology staff, when requested by team members, attend periodic business review meetings, social events, conventions, etc.
  • Proactively monitor, maintain, and plan capacity of all technology, infrastructure, network, and data centers for efficient operation.
  • Internally and externally promote and inspire adherence to core values among all staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with other Technology team members to standardize processes, enhance integration, and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify and prioritize technology initiatives that support the growth and expansion of the business.
  • Analyze the business requirements of all departments to determine their technological needs. 
  • Partner with local universities to attract new talent to the technology team.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Quality to prepare for Technology or Cybersecurity audits where necessary.
  • Approve training content to support strategic initiatives and business continuity (i.e., departmental leadership)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Proven experience (minimum 10 years) in a senior leadership role within Technology, focusing on applications, integration, and enterprise architecture, demonstrating continued growth and success in handling additional responsibilities.
  • Solid understanding of business processes and the ability to align Technology initiatives with organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire cross-functional teams, driving collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing integration architecture frameworks, utilizing EDI, APIs, ESBs, and other middleware technologies.
  • Experience analyzing, implementing, and evaluating Technology systems and their specifications.
  • Proven track record of successful vendor management, contract negotiation, and strategic partnerships.
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity principles, compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR), and risk management practices.
  • Strong background in enterprise application management, including TMS systems, CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot), and custom-developed applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field;
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical problem-solving skills, and a results-driven mindset.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in the 3PL industry.
  • Experience with McLeod PowerBroker TMS.
  • Hands-on experience in all relevant coding languages (C#, HTML, Javascript, Python).
  • Advanced Degree Preferred.
