General Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer to join our enterprise technology team. This role is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting mission-critical mainframe applications that drive our core business operations. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, and other mainframe tools and technologies, with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead technical initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, code, test, and maintain complex mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and IMS.
  • Lead development projects and provide technical guidance to junior developers.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, QA testers, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into scalable mainframe solutions.
  • Optimize existing programs for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Participate in code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Analyze and troubleshoot system issues in production and non-production environments.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and ensure compliance with coding standards.
  • Work closely with DevOps and infrastructure teams to support application deployment and system upgrades.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe application development.
  • Proficient in COBOL, JCL, IMS, DB2, VSAM, TSO/ISPF.
  • Strong knowledge of batch and online processing environments.
  • Experience with source control tools (e.g., SCLM, Endeavor, Changeman, Git).
  • Familiarity with debugging tools (e.g., Abend-AID, Expeditor, File-AID, DumpMaster, Insync, TraceMaster). BTS (Batch Terminal Simulator) a plus also.
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, including the ability to consider cross system/downstream effects of any proposed changes.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Excellent internal customer focus and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Agile methodologies.
  • Exposure to API integration, web services, or middleware technologies.
  • Experience in financial services, insurance, healthcare, or other regulated industries.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,400.00-$183,500.00
