Description
SAIC is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Sr. Systems Engineer with strong Environmental Test Background to support the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane and the Navy Hypersonic Program.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
- Support systems engineering efforts for the NSWC Crane and Navy Hypersonic Program, ensuring technical requirements are met and program objectives are achieved.
- Develop, review, and manage engineering documentation, including requirements specifications, test plans, and design reviews.
- Conduct and oversee environmental testing, including shock, vibration, and temperature tests, ensuring compliance with military standards and specifications.
This includes:
- Developing and validating environmental test plans and procedures.
- Setting up and operating environmental testing equipment (shakers, thermal chambers, shock machines, etc.).
- Performing tests for shock, vibration (random, sine, swept sine), temperature cycling, humidity, altitude, and other environmental factors.
- Monitoring and analyzing test data using appropriate analysis software and techniques.
- Identifying and troubleshooting test setup and equipment issues.
- Documenting test procedures, results, and analysis in detailed technical reports.
- Interpreting and applying relevant environmental test standards and regulations (e.g., MIL-STD-810, DO-160, IEC 60068 series, ASTM standards).
- Participating in the design and development of products to ensure testability and environmental robustness.
- Managing test schedules and resources.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, (design engineering, quality assurance, electrical and mechanical engineers, program managers, and other stakeholders) to ensure integrated and cohesive system designs.
- Perform system analysis, trade studies, and risk assessments to support decision-making and program planning.
- Lead the development and implementation of system integration and testing strategies, ensuring robust and reliable system performance.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative engineering environment.
- Prepare and present technical briefings and reports to internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership and government clients.
- Support program reviews, audits, and other activities as required to ensure program success.
Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in systems engineering
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in environmental testing (shock, vibration, temperature, etc.) spanning designing, executing, and analyzing environmental tests.
- Hands-on experience with environmental testing equipment and instrumentation.
- Direct experience working with military standards (MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, etc.), NASA standards, or other federal agency-specific environmental testing requirements
- Familiarity with various environmental test standards and regulations (MIL-STD, IEC, ASTM, DO-160, etc.)
- Knowledge of test fixture design principles
- Understanding of materials science and how materials behave under environmental stress.
- Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques for test failures.
- Deep understanding of shock and vibration theory and testing methodologies
- Proficiency in thermal testing and humidity testing principles and practices
- Proven experience leading engineering projects and teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools used for design, analysis, and testing.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate technical risks.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
