GIS Product Manager Contract Position 1 year+
Location: Remote, Austin

We are seeking a GIS Product Manager to lead the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of data and technology products that enhance mobility and infrastructure services. This role combines product management, GIS expertise, user-centric design, and cross-functional collaboration. You will lead the strategic vision, development, and ongoing enhancement of GIS-related products and services. You will collaborate with teams responsible for foundational geospatial datasets and assist in managing critical infrastructure assets.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience managing software, digital services, or data products, ideally in a public or civic technology context.
  • Experience working with agile project management and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and concisely.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building abilities, with an empathetic and collaborative work style.
  • Familiarity with tools like ArcGIS, PowerBI, Knack, Tableau, and open-source platforms is a plus.
  • The ability to interpret and leverage large datasets to inform product and strategy decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing and delivering geospatial products or services, such as maps, spatial datasets, and GIS tools.
  • Solid understanding of GIS principles, data structures, spatial analysis techniques, and geospatial formats.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage key products, including mobility datasets, infrastructure tools, and mapping solutions for infrastructure and asset management teams.
  • Lead geospatial product planning and strategy, aligning with user needs and organizational goals.
  • Prioritize, scope, and manage GIS projects with the Geospatial team lead.
  • Support digitization, optimize workflows, and improve data quality.
  • Advocate for GIS data governance and standards to ensure interoperability.
  • Analyze geospatial data to guide product decisions and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and stakeholders to deliver user-focused solutions in an agile environment.
  • Facilitate agile ceremonies, develop user stories, and ensure alignment with business and technical goals.
  • Handle spatial data requests and deliver high-quality outputs.
  • Translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and document progress.
  • Gather user feedback to inform product roadmaps and MVP delivery.
  • Proactively manage risks, scope changes, and recommend course corrections.
