Job Description

ECS is seeking a Systems Engineer to work in our Fairfax, VA office.

ECS is seeking a Systems Engineer to work in a hybrid onsite/remote capacity at ECS Corporate offices located in Fairfax, VA. The Systems Engineer will work as part of a team responsible for designing, developing, installing, documenting, managing, and maintaining a DoD Mission Partner Enclave's physical and virtual network infrastructure. The Systems Engineer will work in a demanding, high-energy environment that requires innovative solutions to hardware, software, network, and operational challenges, and will report directly to the Project Manager.

Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the administration and coordination of activities inherent with a dynamic and innovative initiative. Support will be provided to management, Network and Cloud Team members, and associated activities. Duties include (but are not limited to):
  • Install, configure, maintain, update, manage, and refine information systems.
  • Ensure system components maintain compliance with DoD requirements (e.g. STIGs).
  • Examine enclave vulnerabilities and determine actions to mitigate them.
  • Coordinate and/or provide support for all enclave applications and operations.
  • Support out-of-band patching and upgrades; this may require non-standard working hours.
  • Support standard, and ad-hoc, customer-driven maintenance windows.
  • Recommend, schedule, and/or implement repairs within the enclave environment.
  • Develop and maintain images for virtual desktops and servers.
  • Evaluate system performance and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Schedule and perform backups on all enclave systems.
  • Conduct functional, interoperability, and security testing.
  • Analyze system performance for potential security problems.
  • Participate in technical incident response and security assessment activities.
  • Support the development of cyber security policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to team members and clients as needed.
  • Write/edit and execute technical documents including, but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Concepts of Operation (CONOPS), network diagrams, and other documents, as required.
  • Travel to local data centers, as needed, to perform maintenance; travel to the customer site (Florida), when required, to support onsite customer meetings and events.


Required Skills

  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance, with the ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science; Information Systems Management; or similar Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) discipline.
  • Active DoD 8140 IAT Level II / III certification (e.g., CCNA Security, CySA+, Security+, CSSP).
  • Ability to work in a hybrid onsite/remote capacity in Fairfax, VA, with up to 2 business days onsite, at the manager's discretion.
  • 5+ years of experience administering, troubleshooting, and deploying solutions in Windows and Linux environments (systems and applications).
  • Experience and proficiency working with AWS Cloud services and technologies (EC2, S3, RDS, EKS, VPC, and IAM) or Azure Cloud services (VM, Storage Account, RDS, AKS, VNet, and Entra ID).
  • Experience troubleshooting complex network environments, to include TCP/IP and VLANs.
  • Experience briefing, reporting, and providing technical status updates to leadership in person, virtually, and in writing.
  • Experience with various technologies to apply DISA STIG requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge and use of the full Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High degree of intellectual curiosity, with the ability to learn, apply, and communicate new concepts and technologies in a wide variety of disciplines for government consideration and approval.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities; proven ability to weigh the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and identify the most appropriate solution.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, with the ability to effectively and professionally interact with a diverse set of stakeholders (from peers to end-users to executive management).


Desired Skills

Preference shown to candidates with:
  • Current Top Secret security clearance.
  • Experience working with DoD organizations and/or performers.
  • Experience with architecting enterprise solutions.
  • Experience with web/application server administration (Apache HTTP, NGINX, Tomcat).
  • Knowledgeable in storage technologies and procedures/concepts.
  • Experience with patch management solutions.
  • Familiarity with system automation (Ansible, etc.).
  • Experience with virtualization (VMWare).
  • Hands-on experience and/or knowledge of Atlassian's Jira and Confluence.
