Job Details
As the Sr Systems Engineer you will:
- Work under general supervision but in compliance with organization policies and procedures, works to ensure the efficiency, stability, and integrity of technology infrastructure.
- The SSE possesses strong communication skills and will serve as a technical escalation resource, effectively acting as a co-owner of the technology infrastructure.
- The SSE will also act as de-facto team lead, utilizing team resources efficiently to complete tasks and projects with a service-delivery mentality and in alignment with the department.
- The SSE will also provide guidance and mentorship to encourage career growth within the organization.
- Responsible for monitoring, managing, and maintaining infrastructure components, including (but not limited to) VMWare ESXi, vSAN, Horizon View Virtual Desktop environment, NSX-T Datacenter software defined networking, Dell and Cisco switches and routers, and Palo Alto firewalls.
- Serves as a SME in one or more areas of the IT infrastructure (Compute, Storage, Network, Desktop, Security), acquiring industry-recognized certifications and using this knowledge to act as an escalation resource.
- Provides oversight and support for Troubleshoot problems with hardware or software, including (but not limited to): Windows 10, VMware VDI, Dell Networking, NSX, MS Exchange E-mail, Hybrid Exchange, Hybrid Active Directory, Microsoft Teams, Office 365, SQL, line of business applications (Symitar, Synergy, etc.), and any other supporting equipment or platforms; making repairs and corrections where required.
- Responsible for the successful implementation of projects, identifying risks, assumptions, and constraints, as part of continual project lifecycle. Works to identify tasks and milestones with teammates, ensuring a well-informed execution from planning to implementation, with appropriate documentation for Day 2 operations.
- Works to secure access to both internal systems and any vendor systems through a variety of internal processes and controls, including: single sign on, micro-segmentation, endpoint detection and remediation, and other forms of systems security.
- Analyzes operational efficiency as it relates to IT infrastructure and the end user experience, identifying potential bottlenecks and proposing changes or improvements. Designs, performs, and responds to routine monitoring/alerting, ensuring that employee expectations are met and exceeded to the best of the team s ability.
- Conducts peer-review of configuration or systems changes proposed by other members of IT staff, providing feedback as needed. Participates in on-going change management processes to ensure that proposed changes are well vetted and fully communicated to.
- Collaborates with strategic partners and vendors to negotiate and secure agreements, resolve emergent or on-going issues, or to investigate new technologies in alignment with defined Risk Management policies and thresholds.
- Self-manages daily activities through company-sponsored service management systems (JIRA, etc.) ensuring that all cases are managed or resolved per established service level agreements (SLAs). Maintains full accounting of daily activities in said service systems, documenting all activities.
- Performs hands-on maintenance of systems and hardware, while taking all necessary precautions to minimize or minimize disruptions of service. Maintains awareness of systems outages or maintenance through company-sponsored Status systems, coordinating with marketing resources as appropriate to post member-facing notices in the event of outages on the public website.
- Participates in IT on-call rotation as scheduled, acting as incident owner as appropriate during after-hours response needs. Similarly, handles off-hours maintenance or upgrades as needed and in accordance with defined change management controls.
- Takes on travel and overnight obligations as needed for project work, vendor training, or industry conferences.
- This role is critical for supporting the overall credit union during normal and after hours with possible on-call duties; therefore, for any individual using his/her personal device(s); such as, internet usage and phone usage; may be reimbursed for this expense.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s Degree preferred in Information System (Or Computer Science, Engineering). or equivalent experience.
- 5 plus years of with deploying and configuring Microsoft Server and Client operating systems, administration of Hybrid Exchange environment, deployment and management of Microsoft SQL Server, deployment, and management ESXi and vCenter, VDI environments, including deployment maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- 3 plus years of experience with VMWare in a 3rd tier support capacity
- Participate in an on-call rotation.
