We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Technical Writer/Ed Principal to join our talented team. In this senior leadership role, you will oversee the development, review, and editing of complex technical documentation. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive the documentation strategy to ensure high-quality, consistent, and user-focused content.

Work is performed on site in Norfolk, VA and Virginia Beach, VA.

This position is contingent upon award news Spring of 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the creation, review, and editing of comprehensive technical documents, including but not limited to user manuals, installation guides, system operations, and maintenance manuals.
  • Adhere to documentation standards and develop and implement templates and best practices to ensure consistency and quality across all technical content.
  • Mentor and guide junior writers, providing feedback and support to foster professional development.
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to gather detailed technical information and ensure document accuracy.
  • Manage and oversee the documentation lifecycle, from initial content creation through updates and revisions, ensuring timely delivery aligned with project milestones.
  • Conduct thorough technical reviews and quality assurance checks to ensure documentation accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards.
  • Lead the effort in converting complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content tailored for various audiences.
  • Drive continuous improvement in documentation processes, leveraging new tools and technologies to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Prepare and present documentation strategy and progress updates to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, security, and organizational requirements in all technical documentation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and primary point of contact for all technical writing and editing inquiries.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in technical communication to ensure best practices are applied.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • BA degree in English, Journalism, or Technical Writing.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in DoD technical writing, to include: writing/editing technical documentation, procedures and guidelines for C4ISR systems or equipment.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing and mentoring a team of technical writers.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Deep understanding of technical concepts and the ability to quickly grasp new technologies.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard documentation tools and software, such as Adobe Acrobat, MadCap Flare, or RoboHelp.
  • Solid knowledge of HTML, CSS, or other web technologies is a plus.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and interface with all levels of the organization.

Required Security Clearance:

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
    • Active Interim Secret or final Secret clearance is preferred.
