Job Details
My client is seeking a Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer to support a critical infrastructure initiative as they optimize and transition parts of their Azure cloud environment. This is a fully remote contract opportunity for 4-6 months, with a focus on day-to-day Azure operations, environment cleanup, and support for a broader cloud repatriation effort.
You'll be stepping in as the primary Azure SME, working alongside a team of experienced server administrators to assess, stabilize, and optimize the Azure landscape.

You'll be stepping in as the primary Azure SME, working alongside a team of experienced server administrators to assess, stabilize, and optimize the Azure landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level support for Azure IaaS operations, including VMs, storage, backups, and virtual networking
- Conduct detailed inventory and rightsizing of the existing Azure environment to reduce unnecessary spend
- Lead cleanup efforts of legacy or inefficient configurations across the Azure estate
- Address immediate priorities such as upgrading public IPs and assessing security/firewall configurations
- Assist with long-term planning for public IP architecture changes and repatriation of workloads back on-prem
- Document all changes and processes to ensure a smooth knowledge transfer to internal teams
- Collaborate with a team of 3 server administrators and stakeholders to align on priorities and progress
Required Qualifications
- 4-5 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure infrastructure
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- Azure virtual machines, backups, and storage
- Azure cost optimization and rightsizing
- Azure networking: VNets, load balancers, firewalls, and application gateways
- Strong experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and configuration tasks
- Ability to navigate and clean up large, complex Azure environments
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-104, AZ-305)
- Experience supporting hybrid environments with both on-prem and Azure infrastructure
- Familiarity with cloud repatriation projects or migration back to on-prem environments
- Experience documenting undocumented systems and building runbooks or SOPs
