Job Title: Mainframe Storage Engineer
Location: On-site in Woodlawn, MD OR Lakewood, CO OR Durham, NC (5 days/week)
Clearance Requirement: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Mainframe Storage Engineer to lead and support virtual tape storage operations in a complex z/OS environment. This role will drive operational efficiency, support system integration, and provide high-level troubleshooting and administration of storage platforms including Dell EMC DLm8500 and Data Domain systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as technical lead for mainframe platform initiatives, collaborating with application teams and stakeholders.
Develop and implement strategies for operational improvement.
Perform daily system administration, monitoring, and issue resolution.
Support system/software updates and contribute to disaster recovery planning and testing.
Document technical processes, configurations, and procedures.
Provide project status updates and contribute to technical planning and execution.
Troubleshoot platform, storage, and application-related issues.
Contribute to process automation using Ansible playbooks.
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
7+ years of experience as a Mainframe Storage Engineer.
7+ years resolving issues in virtual tape environments (VSM, VLE, ZFS).
5+ years working with Dell EMC virtual tape libraries, including DLm8500.
5+ years of experience with IBM JCL.
4+ years using CA-1 Tape Management and CA Vantage.
4+ years supporting disaster recovery efforts for virtual tape systems.
3+ years designing and building Storage Management Subsystems (SMS).
2+ years using Data Domain Management Center (DDMC), TSO, and ISPF.
Proficient in Linux CLI.
Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience with InsightIQ and Data Domain systems.
Experience with Cyber Recovery in virtual tape environments.
Proven ability to automate tasks and processes using Ansible.
Experience in federal government or highly regulated environments.
Demonstrated ability to design, deploy, and manage multi-node storage systems.
Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
