Backup Engineer/Storage Engineer
Client Domain: Financial Services
Location: Fort Mill, SC Hybrid role (3 Days/Week)
Contract: 12+ Months
Job Description: Role Summary:
Design, evaluate, and implement secure, immutable backup solutions using Data Vault, CyberVault, or equivalent air-gapped technologies. Act as the technical lead in assessing multiple solution providers, validating engineering designs, and ensuring business workflows are supported.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the evaluation of at least three solution providers, assessing architecture, performance, compliance, and operational fit.
- Recommend optimal solution(s) based on technical capabilities, recovery objectives, and business workflow needs.
- Design and implement immutable backup environments with WORM-compliant storage and retention policies.
- Integrate ransomware/malware scanning into backup ingestion and recovery workflows.
- Build clean room recovery environments, validate recoveries, and ensure workflows meet compliance and audit requirements.
- Collaborate with application owners, storage teams, and vendors to meet RPO/RTO targets.
- Automate backup and recovery workflows, monitor system health, and audit access controls.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years in backup engineering, storage administration, or DR solution architecture.
- Proven experience evaluating and implementing solutions from multiple vendors.
- Strong understanding of immutable storage, air-gap architectures, ransomware recovery, and WORM compliance.
- Hands-on experience with backup platforms (e.g., NetBackup, Commvault, Rubrik, Cohesity) and monitoring tools.
- Scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash) preferred.
