Description & Requirements

Bloomberg News is one of the world's biggest and most influential news organizations. Our Global Technology team closely covers the companies, investors and entrepreneurs that are changing the world. We're seeking a talented, dedicated and creative reporter to join our award-winning team in San Francisco or New York to cover the venture capital industry and startups, including (but not limited to) funding and innovation in artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, consumer apps and enterprise tools. We're looking for someone eager to break news and write in-depth features on this dynamic and influential beat, balancing frequent fast-paced scoops and analysis with deeper, longer-term stories and projects. This role is for an ambitious reporter who knows how to stand out on one of the fastest-moving, most competitive beats in business journalism.

Who we're looking for:
You're an agile reporter with a deep Rolodex of technology-industry contacts and an intimate knowledge of the venture capital landscape, Silicon Valley's biggest personalities, and the most important emerging startups. Beyond writing about the news and its impact, you seek to bring new investing and startup trends to light and to inspire conversation through stories from across the technology beat. You're versatile enough to react quickly and write clearly on the most pressing breaking news of the day, while still pursuing broader and more influential investigations. You'll be asked to contribute to a variety of platforms, including the Bloomberg terminal, the web, Bloomberg TV and Originals videos, and Bloomberg Businessweek magazine.
To be considered, please submit your application by Sunday October 12

We'll trust you to:

  • Break news consistently
  • Write well, accurately and quickly, under sometimes tight deadlines
  • Lean on existing sources and develop new ones to break news and generate features about venture capital firms, investors and startups
  • Write original, feature-length stories about the venture capital and startup ecosystem and Silicon Valley/Silicon Alley culture
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors on the Global Technology team and others across teams and regions
  • Be committed to the best journalistic practices, sound judgment and a willingness to learn

You'll need to have:

  • Deep knowledge of and curiosity about the VC and startup universe
  • A consistent track record of breaking news and a portfolio of long-form features
  • The ability to write quickly and concisely under pressure
  • Technology journalism experience preferred
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, ability to work steadily and calmly under pressure
