Location: Bedford, MA

Duration: 3 year contract with benefits offered

Rate: 55-70/hr W2

Description:
Researches, prepares and produces electronic media (computer interactive CDs, interactive websites, audiovisual, film, video) for training, sales, promotion, documentation, and other communicative purposes for both internal and external audiences. Consults with user to determine appropriate medium, creates product concepts, plans production, and produces media to include scriptwriting, location scouting, shot selection, video shooting, tape logging, music and sound effect selection, computer graphics, animation, digital effect creation, final editing and tape duplication. May act as liaison with vendors ensuring scheduling, costs and quality requirements are met.

This group maintains and operates an airborne network wireless test bed in support of network research into tactical wireless communication systems. The test bed is composed of COTS switches, routers, and work stations integrated with customized or prototype government-furnished devices. The infrastructure is distributed across several locations and includes aircraft and mobile ground assets.

These activities create an ongoing requirement for a highly skilled technical writer to create and to maintain the technical reference manuals for each of these systems and update critical databases.

The technical writer will receive complex and highly technical descriptions from developers and/or engineers and will be required to translate those descriptions into technical reference manuals. The technical writer must be a highly skilled person who understands technical concepts down to the detail level and who can translate them into clear, concise, comprehensive documentation. The individual will be responsible for:
a) Consolidating manuals, field guides, and reference materials;
b) Developing and maintaining Wiki pages to collate data and information;
c) Creating a library of code written by staff.

In addition, the individual will be required to run VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language) simulations and document results along with performing functionality comparisons.

This job requires an experienced technical writer with an understanding of signal processing, design trees and drawings, and familiarity with communication hardware. A working knowledge of electrical engineering with knowledge of RF and digital systems is highly desirable. The individual must be familiar with cables, connectors, miscellaneous parts, etc. and general knowledge of functionality.

In addition, the technical writer must have skills in the following areas:
Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel in particular
Visio, Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator: Engineering Diagramming programs
Understanding of VHDL
Understanding of networking technologies
Understanding of Modelism (Mentor Graphics) & Vivado (Xilinx): Hardware programming

Preferred Skills:
JIRA & Confluence: web based collaboration and Wiki designing
Adobe FrameMaker: word processing tool for larger formats
