Job Description

Discover Impactful Work:

You will be part of the manufacturing engineering team to develop new manufacturing equipment that supports the global network of Thermo Fisher Scientific SUD manufacturing sites. You will be responsible for ensuring design quality, safety, and delivery to equipment requirements and standards.

A Day in the Life:

You will have direct responsibility for specifying and designing new manufacturing equipment as well as improvements to existing designs to improve productivity, capacity, cost reduction, and efficiency. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest levels of quality and efficiency in your work

Keys to Success:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering related field required with 5 years (or Master's degree with 3 years) of demonstrated applicable experience in a technical/engineering environment.

Experience

  • Specification and design of manufacturing equipment (manual and automated).
  • Leading technical engineering efforts of equipment design and development .
  • Using critical metrics for measuring and improving personal engineering work.
  • Contributing to project teams and managing individual effort across multiple projects.
  • Application of process control verification (SPC).
  • Design and implementation of automated processes for high-mix/low-volume production desired.
  • Design to applicable international standards (e.g. ISO, CE, FDA, etc.) desired.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Allen Bradley PLC, HMI and servo programming including coordinated motion.
  • Safe Machine Design and Safety Risk Assessment (ISO12100).
  • Schematic/Electrical CAD (e.g. AutoCAD or SolidWorks Electrical).
  • Electrical and control panel layouts.
  • Pneumatic design and layout.
  • Robotics (Fanuc preferred) including control via PLC.
  • Vision systems for defect inspection.
  • Barcoding (print and read) and RFID.
  • Data collection and database connections (e.g. OPC, Ignition).
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Proficient in technical writing including authoring engineering protocols, reports, and procedures.
  • Medical Device/Biopharmaceutical manufacturing (i.e. GMP, FDA, ISO 13485) experience desired.
  • Self-motivated with good problem solving, communication, and coordination skills .
  • Self-starter with history of continuous improvement and measurable results.
