Position Summary:

As a member of our interdisciplinary Concept Development Team in our Digital, Robotics, and Enabling Technology (DRE) division you are providing direction, mentorship, and mastering a wide field of automation technologies in healthcare, e.g., haptics-enabled robotic technologies, supervised automated machining, advanced surgical robotics, tele-robotics, physical human-robot interaction, advanced nonlinear control systems, bio-signal processing, and advanced machine learning algorithms, computer vision and artificial intelligence.

What You Will Do
Key Areas of Responsibility: What you will do:
Technical Responsibilities:
  • Technology Assessment: Identify new technologies and evaluate potential fit to current and future clinical needs, development programs, and product roadmaps (5 to 10-year roadmap). Connect and collaborate with potential technology partners, clinical partners, and support internal business development.
  • Anticipate technology trends/threats and provide plans to convert them into new opportunities.
  • Lead technical teams in research, design, development, modification, and evaluation of medical device systems.
  • Apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts across various products within business and across businesses.
  • Assess new/game-changing technologies for use within/across businesses and product lines.
  • Decision-making and mentoring for correction of complex product design issues.
  • Contribute to intellectual property filings and strategies.
  • Independent reviewer for design reviews.


Business Responsibilities:
  • Know the medical robotics market: Demonstrate a strong awareness of competitor strategies, technologies, and offerings. Champion emerging business opportunities considering synergies across multiple divisions.
  • Ability to provide and defend a long-term vision for medical robotics and automation in healthcare.
  • Mentor, teach, and develop best practices for our voice of customer and customer-centric design activities.
  • Collaborate and mentor on financial/business modeling and lead business reviews to validate a technical approach.
  • Conduit to Academia & Research: Build, use, and expand our international network of institutions and researchers in the field of medical robotics; create and foster collaboration with the world's best-in-class research institutions, including contracting, approval, monitoring, and compliance.
  • Financial Acumen: Directly support the leadership team in making sound financial decisions around platform and product development. Drive financial modeling efforts on new capabilities and emerging technologies.

  • Work closely with clinical customers, and the Stryker divisions to fully understand their needs, propose robotic or automation solutions, and leverage synergies within DRE and the business units (BUs) we support.
  • Lead cooperative efforts with all stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Team expert, who leads the development and utilization of tools & systems which will enhance the company's product/process development and performance.
  • Architect platforms that span multiple technologies and product lines, including the next generation.
  • Lead work activities for complex product development amongst cross-functional teams, demonstrating depth in multiple technical areas of expertise.
  • Identify and implement breakthrough solutions amongst multiple R&D teams, demonstrating business and divisional influence.
  • Contribute to review and evaluation of technical personnel performance.


Who We Need

Minimum Qualifications(must have)
Education Requirements
  • You have an advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar. A PhD in the field would support the position.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience and deep expertise in medical robotics, mechatronics, controls, sensors, and AI/CV.


Preferred Qualification(strongly desired)

Technical Skills:
  • Robotics and Controls, interwoven with AI: deep expertise in medical robotics, mechatronics, controls, sensors, and AI/CV.
  • Software engineering and programming, software integration and deployment
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical topics succinctly.


Preferred Skills / Engineering tools:
  • You are characterized by a high level of commitment, service orientation, and a solution-oriented and structured way of working.
  • Software engineering tools common in the software development life cycle (SDLC)
  • Expert knowledge of ISO 13485 and ISO 14971.


Certifications:
  • A proven track record of results, academic peer-reviewed publications, patents, honors, and awards would support the position.
