Job Details

Job Summary:

Responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnostic and repairs of cars, trucks, trailers, and off-road equipment.

MUST HAVE: Valid N.C. class A CDL with air brake endorsement.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide skills for the effective performance of the activities of the assigned position within policies and procedures.
  • Change engine oil, lubrication, oil filters, fuel filters, air filters, batteries, brake repairs, light issues, tire maintenance, fan belts, radiator hoses, exhaust issues, etc.
  • Maintain the preventive maintenance programs for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain and repair cars, trucks, trailers and off-road equipment in a safe, efficient, quality-minded and member-focused manner.
  • Perform a final operational test on all vehicles and equipment to check all repairs.
  • Complete reports on tracking operational and maintenance costs.
  • Work with specialized equipment such as A/C Refrigerant Recovery-Reclaim Units, grinders, torches, computerized engine analyzers, etc. Operate various hand and power-driven shop tools.
  • Provide emergency services for the Cooperative vehicles and equipment as required.
  • Maintain the service garages and assigned areas in a neat, clean and safe manner free of hazards.
  • Perform work safely and in accordance with DOT, FMCSA, ANSI, Federal, State and local ordinances

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Technical, vocational or trade school diploma or degree in automotive and light truck service repair and maintenance is desired.
  • ASE Certification for Automobile / Light Truck is required. (ASE Engine Repairs A1, Steering and suspension A4, Brakes A5, Electrical and electronic systems A6 and Heating and Air Conditioning A7).
  • 3 years experience as fleet mechanic.
  • Knowledge of all phases of service and maintenance to perform required repairs on various types of equipment
  • Valid N.C. class A CDL with air brake endorsement.
  • Possess a complete set of standard tools and metric tools in accordance with the fleet department tool list.
