Position: Mainframe DB2 Database Administrator
Location: Texas
Duration: 6-month contract
Role Overview
The Mainframe DB2 DBA will support database administration, performance tuning, maintenance, and optimization in a z/OS environment. This role requires strong technical knowledge of DB2 internals, database utilities, and integration with COBOL and Java applications.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain DB2 databases in a mainframe z/OS environment.
- Perform performance monitoring, tuning, capacity planning, and optimization.
- Create and maintain tables, table spaces, indexes, views, and database schemas.
- Execute DB2 utilities such as Load, Reorg, Runstats, Imagecopy, and Recovery.
- Support backup, restoration, and disaster recovery activities.
- Analyze system performance metrics and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with COBOL and Java development teams for database-related needs.
- Prepare technical documentation, procedures, and maintenance instructions.
- Troubleshoot database issues and ensure high availability and reliability.
Required Skills
- Strong experience as a Mainframe DB2 DBA in a z/OS environment.
- Hands-on experience with DB2 setup, configuration, and maintenance.
- Expertise in DB2 utilities (Load, Reorg, Runstats, Imagecopy, Recovery).
- Knowledge of logical and physical database design.
- Strong understanding of performance tuning and monitoring.
- Familiarity with COBOL and Java integration.
- Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.
