Position Description:

The Palo Alto Technical Architect serves as a strategic, technical expert within the Information Security domain for Suffolk County s IT organization. This senior-level, on-site role will design, assess, and optimize enterprise-class firewall architectures leveraging Palo Alto Networks technologies. The Technical Architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust security controls, align with organizational objectives, and drive enhancements across public sector network environments.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and creation of enterprise firewall architecture, policies, and zone segmentation using Palo Alto Networks platforms.
• Perform comprehensive reviews of existing firewall policies, interface configurations, and security zones to identify gaps and optimization opportunities.
• Develop detailed network and security diagrams, including topology maps, policy flows, and zone definitions.
• Document findings, design decisions, and recommended configuration changes in clear, concise technical reports.
• Collaborate with Suffolk County IT managers and stakeholders to align security architecture with business and compliance requirements.
• Define and manage project tasks, deliverables, and resource allocation to ensure timely completion of scope within the three-month engagement.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers on Palo Alto Networks best practices, policy design, and configuration standards

Required Skills:

• Expert-level proficiency with Palo Alto Networks firewalls, Panorama, and associated security management tools.
• Strong understanding of network security concepts, including firewall policy design, NAT, VPN, and Zero Trust segmentation.
• Hands-on experience with firewall interface configuration, zone management, and security policy tuning.
• Advanced skills in network diagramming tools (e.g., Visio, Lucidchart) and technical documentation.
• Excellent analytical and problemsolving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
• Effective communication and presentation skills for technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and drive projects to completion within defined timelines.

Education and Experience:
