Position: Scientist IV Solid State NMR Spectroscopist

Department: Material and Analytical Sciences (MAS)

Location: Ridgefield, CT

Contract Length: 1+ Year

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Chemist with expertise in Solid State NMR (ssNMR) Spectroscopy to join our Material and Analytical Sciences (MAS) team in Ridgefield, CT. This temporary role provides the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment, expand your scientific expertise, and gain valuable experience in the drug development process.

As a member of our global research organization, you will contribute to the discovery, development, and delivery of innovative medicines, collaborating with international colleagues and gaining visibility within the company. We foster a culture of scientific excellence, collaboration, diversity, inclusion, and work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

Apply solid-state NMR (ssNMR) techniques to acquire and interpret 1D and 2D data ( H, F, C, N, etc.) for molecular structure elucidation.

Characterize pharmaceutical materials (particles, powders, suspensions) to support robust drug substance and drug product development.

Evaluate and characterize a wide range of materials including APIs (small molecules), biologics, excipients, intermediates, and final drug products.

Apply quantitative ssNMR methods to measure components of APIs and formulations.

Integrate molecular modeling, solution/solid-state NMR, and X-ray crystallography for 3D structural evaluations at the atomic/molecular level.

Maintain accurate data backup and retrieval systems for all ssNMR experiments.

Design, plan, and execute experiments with minimal supervision.

Stay current with scientific literature to guide new methodologies and experiment design.

Prepare technical reports, protocols, and scientific interpretations with minimal guidance.

Present research findings at internal scientific meetings.

Required Skills & Experience

Strong background in solid-state NMR spectroscopy: sample preparation, data acquisition, and interpretation of multinuclear NMR data.

Experience in implementing and troubleshooting ssNMR experiments.

Hands-on experience with Bruker ssNMR probes (installation and adjustments).

Knowledge of molecular structure principles (inter-atomic distances, hydrogen bonding, torsion angle strain, hydrophobic/hydrophilic interactions).

Proficiency in molecular modeling tools (e.g., Gaussian, Schr dinger, Materials Studio Suite, CCDC software).

Familiarity with computational methods (qm-DFT, Monte Carlo) and HPC clusters/Linux environments.

Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work independently and proactively.

Excellent laboratory practices ensuring safety, accuracy, and data integrity.

Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills (Nice-to-Have)

Background in solution NMR for molecular structure elucidation.

Experience in ssNMR applications to biological systems.

Experience with membrane protein sample preparation and analysis.

Education

Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry or a related field.

1 3 years of experience applying Solid State NMR Spectroscopy to characterize pharmaceutically relevant small molecules.
