Role: Mainframe Systems Programmer IBM DB2
Location: Albany, New York
Duration: 2.5 Years Contract

What is our client looking for?
Our client is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Mainframe z/OS DB2 Systems Programmer with extensive hands-on experience in IBM DB2. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise and practical knowledge to support, maintain, and enhance DB2 environments. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and serviceability of the DB2 subsystem while providing advanced technical support for installation, upgrades, diagnosis, and performance tuning of DB2 and related OEM products.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Support and maintain DB2 subsystems in a z/OS environment.
- Perform DB2 software installs, upgrades, and maintenance.
- Diagnose and resolve complex DB2 and related product issues.
- Tune DB2 for optimal performance and resource utilization.
- Provide technical leadership and documentation for DB2 best practices.
- Utilize strong knowledge of SMP/E and its role in the installation process.
- Conduct ongoing maintenance (installing, patching, upgrading, administering, etc.) of the mainframe z/OS operating system, accompanying storage systems, and related systems software products (database, transaction server, security management, scheduling, report distribution, etc.).
- Administer and support UNIX System Services on z/OS.
- Provide production off-hour coverage and support for periodic weekend implementations.
Experience / Preferred Qualifications:
- Proven experience in DB2 Database system recovery.
- Strong working knowledge of DB2.
- Hands-on experience with VTAM and TCP/IP.
- Minimum 10 years of experience with z/OS, JES2, SMP/E, TSO, IOCP/HCD, basic IBM utilities (IDCAMS, IEFBR14, etc.), program product installations, IBM virtual tape system, and Unix System Services.
- Working knowledge of CICS, IMS, and AFP printing (preferred).
- Experience using monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON.
- Prior experience with enterprise-wide, large-scale implementations.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Experience with mainframe CPU installs as a systems programmer consultant.
Education:
- Bachelor s degree in a relevant technical field or 10+ years of equivalent technical experience in mainframe environments.
