Job Summary:
The Senior Systems Engineer II will apply systems engineering principles to the development, integration, and lifecycle management of complex defense systems. This role will serve as a technical leader within cross-functional teams, providing architectural guidance, driving requirements definition and traceability, and ensuring system designs meet customer, regulatory, and program objectives. The Senior Systems Engineer II is expected to lead technical initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and drive continuous improvement of engineering processes and methodologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Lead the development, decomposition, and management of system and subsystem requirements, ensuring traceability throughout the system lifecycle.
· Serve as the primary requirements owner, including authoring, maintaining, validating, and managing changes to requirements in accordance with established processes.
· Develop and maintain system-level documentation including specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), verification plans, and technical reports.
· Lead system integration, verification, and validation activities, including test planning, execution oversight, and issue resolution.
· Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks; proactively propose mitigation strategies.
· Support proposal development, technical reviews, design reviews, and customer briefings.
· Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and peers.
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including development and refinement of engineering processes, tools, and best practices.
· Ensure compliance with applicable standards, policies, and regulatory requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
Education and Experience (required):
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
· Minimum of 6 years of experience in systems engineering or a closely related engineering role.
· Proven experience developing, managing, and maintaining system requirement.
· Demonstrated leadership in process development, standardization, or continuous improvement initiatives.
· Demonstrated experience leading technical efforts across multiple disciplines.
· Strong background in system architecture, integration, and verification activities.
· Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools.
· U.S. Citizen
Education and Experience (Preferred):
· Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
· Experience with the engineering and integration of ground vehicle systems and subsystems.
· Experience with ‘V-Model’ development process steps and methodologies
· Experience working in regulated or mission-critical environments (defense, aerospace, automotive, etc.).
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities (required):
· Advanced understanding of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices.
· Strong requirements management expertise, including traceability, change control, and impact analysis.
· Experience with DOORS or similar requirements management tools.
· Experience with system modeling, architecture development, and interface definition.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex technical challenges and quickly assimilate and apply new concepts, business models, and technologies.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
· Familiarity with tools used for requirements management, configuration management, and system modeling.
· Experience with creating and managing SysML and Simulink diagrams and models .
· Ability to drive process improvement initiatives and mentor others in best practices.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities (preferred):
· Working knowledge of Vetronics systems and applications.
· Experience leading rapid prototyping in environment with evolving requirements and hardware configurations.
· Knowledge of network topology, communications standards, and protocols.
· Currently holding or the ability to obtain a Secret DOD security clearance.
· Experience with defense systems architectures and frameworks (e.g., DoDAF, GCIA, MOSA, FACE).
· Knowledge of embedded systems, networking, and/or real-time systems.
· Experience supporting system-level design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR).
