Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer, with 5-10 years of experience, to join our Water Division as part of our construction management team on a NYCHA construction project in the Bronx, NY.

This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join our team with support from one of the best-qualified municipal consulting firms in the country. As an Assistant Resident Engineer, you will utilize your experience and technical knowledge of municipal infrastructure, construction management, and general building projects to successfully execute and manage construction under the supervision of the Resident Engineer.

Role accountabilities:

The Assistant Resident Engineer will manage the firm's day-to-day construction oversight/Assistant Resident Engineering efforts on a major NYCHA infrastructure upgrade contract.

Assist Resident Engineer (RE) in performing daily inspection of construction activities and preparing daily inspector reports in accordance with clients' requirements.

Act as liaison to design staff to respond to Contractors' RFIs and review of shop drawings.

Act as liaison to NYCHA staff to respond to the owner's comments and concerns.

Assist RE in performing field office services such as record keeping, general correspondence, compiling and drafting of required reports and deliverables.

Provide technical review of construction plans and specifications and project changes for constructability and practicality.

Assist RE in managing overall site safety and permit condition compliance.

Monitor Contractor performance, schedule, overall responsiveness and effectiveness.

Exert influence over contractor to maintain project goals regarding cost, schedule, quality, etc.

Support the review, preparation, negotiation, and processing of Contractor payments and change orders.

Assist the RE in leading meetings and preparation of meeting agendas and minutes.

Assist RE in managing subcontractors for special inspections, commissioning, and asbestos project monitoring.

Use effective oral and written communication skills to effectively lead progress, project, safety, scheduling and other contract administration meetings with client, local agencies and the community.

Assist RE in closeout of the construction contract including preparing of all closeout documents, compiling and drafting of required reports and deliverables.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:
  • 5 years prior experience as an Office Engineer, Inspector, or Assistant Resident Engineer for NYC projects.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Construction or a related field of study
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10 years' experience with at least 5 years of Assistant Resident Engineering, inspector, or office engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer - New York (active)
  • Boiler or mechanical project experience.
  • Active participation in regional or national professional associations.
  • Interest and ability to network, support proposals and contribute to the firm's growth in the NYC construction market.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
