Java Engineering Lead - eCommerce Platforms

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Java Engineering Lead - eCommerce Platforms for a CONTRACT assignment with one of our premier Automotive Services clients in India .

Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Java Engineering Lead with strong experience in eCommerce platforms (ideally SAP Hybris) to lead and mentor a team of 5-10 engineers. You will be responsible for driving technical delivery, collaborating cross-functionally with product managers, architects, and DevOps teams, and ensuring that our microservices-based eCommerce applications are scalable, resilient, and high-performing.
Our ecosystem leverages Spring Boot containerized microservices, Gradle builds, AWS cloud services, Redis caching, and a variety of supporting frameworks. This role is ideal for a leader with deep technical expertise, proven experience managing cross-functional teams, and the ability to enforce best practices in software development lifecycle (SDLC), testing, and automation.

• Lead a team of 5-10 Java engineers, providing mentorship, code reviews, and career development support.
• Own the architecture, design, and delivery of Spring Boot microservices for eCommerce platforms.
• Drive quality through unit testing (JUnit, Mockito), integration testing, and CI/CD automation.
• Manage delivery pipelines with Gradle, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and AWS-based deployments.
• Collaborate with product owners, QA, DevOps, and architects to define requirements, deliver features, and manage risks.
• Oversee backlog and sprint activities using Jira and Confluence.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise standards for performance, observability, and security.
• Support modernization efforts, including migrating to newer Java and Spring Boot versions, container orchestration, and cloud services.

Required Skills:

• Java 11+ (preferably Java 17), Spring Boot, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, Spring Actuator
• Hybris (SAP Commerce Cloud) experience strongly preferred
• Lombok, MapStruct for DTO mapping
• PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle
• Redis for caching
• Kafka for event streaming and ingestion
• Gradle, GitHub Actions, Jenkins pipelines, Docker, Docker-Compose
• Familiarity with AWS (EC2, ECS/Fargate, S3, RDS, Lambda)
• Containerized deployments and microservices orchestration
• JUnit, Mockito, Jacoco for coverage reporting
• Swagger/OpenAPI for API documentation
• Jackson (JSON processing)
• Apache Commons, Guava
• SLF4J, Logback, Log4j2 for logging
• Hibernate ORM and validation frameworks
• Micrometer for observability and metrics
• Proven track record of managing engineering teams (5-10 engineers) in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Experience in cross-functional collaboration with business analysts, QA, DevOps, and stakeholders.
• Strong background in backlog management, sprint planning, and delivering high-quality features on time.
• Ability to balance technical debt, scalability needs, and feature delivery.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience working with and analyzing the output from AI code generation tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot, and others.
• Prior experience with eCommerce platforms like Hybris, Magento, or custom-built microservice commerce engines.
• Experience with Python and NodeJS for scripting, automation, and testing.
• Exposure to security frameworks (e.g., OAuth2, JWT).
• Familiarity with CI/CD observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
