At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

We are looking for a fluids design engineer to help craft the gas systems for the Lunar Transporter spacecraft. Work will include the complete life cycle of the sub-assembly from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operations. This position goes from initial design, to analyzing, to getting hardware, launching, and operating in space.

A successful candidate will understand fluid systems, fluid dynamics, and compressible flow for space vehicles.

The position will work under a senior engineer accountable for the gas distribution and storage sub-system. You will be responsible for analyses of the thruster feedlines and main engine re-press lines as well as the integration of the thrusters with the vehicle. The position will be responsible for valves, thrusters, sensors, piping and other fluids equipment for this portion of the gas system. Our team will size, select materials, and analyze components for structural integrity due to pressure, vibration, fracture, fatigue, etc. You will work with suppliers or Blue Origin internal groups to identify components and support procurement, fabrication, and installation. You will also manage the project plan for various hardware including cost and schedule for your sub-assembly.

The position will work directly on our Transporter Vehicle within the Lunar Permanence Business Unit. Bring you technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between fluid systems and other vehicle subsystems.
  • Design and analyze custom components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
  • Perform component verification of internally and externally sourced components to company standards.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
  • Experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred)
  • Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience performing flow and pressure calculations as well as structural and thermal analysis of fluid systems.
  • Proven understand of fluid components such as valves, pumps, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
  • Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components/systems
  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between the vehicle and subsystems.
  • Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of fluid systems (tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communications skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Desired:
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field
