Job Opportunity:

BHSI is seeking a Duck Creek Technical Lead to join our Digital SME Technology team. This senior role combines hands-on expertise with Duck Creek Policy Administration and day-to-day delivery leadership. You will serve as the senior technical leader for an Agile team (and portable across others as needed), ensuring code quality, delivery velocity, and platform performance while mentoring developers, collaborating across business and technology teams, and working with vendors and partners.

The role will provide direction across configuration, integration, and solution design within Duck Creek Technologies insurance software solutions, while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and compliance standards. A critical part of this role is enabling reuse of the Duck Creek product chassis to support both near-term delivery and long-term platform evolution, while collaborating with Product, Architecture, and Program Management to ensure solutions are efficient, reliable, and intuitive for underwriters, operations teams, and distribution partners.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Delivery Leadership
  • Act as the senior technical leader for Duck Creek delivery, guiding their assigned Agile team in sprint planning, refinement, and execution.
  • Translate complex business requirements into actionable technical stories and designs.
  • Remove blockers, set clear technical goals, and ensure delivery outcomes align with business value.
  • Ensure Duck Creek solutions are delivered with speed, quality, and reusability to support rapid go-to-market timelines.

Hands-On Duck Creek Expertise
  • Lead design and development for Duck Creek Policy, Author, and Page Builder (including manuscripts, inheritance, forms, rating, XSLT, SQL procedures, user admin, and skins).
  • Debug and resolve high-complexity issues and performance bottlenecks.
  • Review and contribute code, ensuring adherence to best practices and maintainability standards.

Team Mentorship & Collaboration
  • Mentor and coach developers within their Agile team while sharing Duck Creek expertise and best practices across the broader delivery group.
  • Collaborate with QA on automation, performance testing, and quality improvements.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Program Managers, and Business SMEs to ensure requirements are well understood and designs support efficient delivery.
  • Work closely with vendors and external partners to ensure alignment and successful delivery outcomes.

Continuous Improvement & Technical Influence
  • Champion delivery efficiency through reusability, standardization, and quality practices.
  • Recommend process and tooling improvements to enhance delivery velocity.
  • Provide input into architecture and solution design, ensuring development teams can execute effectively within established patterns.
  • Support production readiness and contribute to incident resolution when needed, ensuring stability and continuity of delivery.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of delivery leadership.
  • 7+ years of hands-on Duck Creek Policy Admin experience (Policy, Author, Page Builder) with strong knowledge of underwriting, rating, and forms.
  • Experience with Duck Creek Active Delivery is highly desirable.
  • Proven leadership of Agile delivery teams; ability to mentor, motivate, and hold teams accountable.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server, integrations, and performance optimization.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical solutions to business stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft technologies and cloud environments (Azure, .NET frameworks, API integrations, event-driven design) is a plus.
  • Prior P&C insurance domain experience strongly preferred.

BHSI Offers:
  • A competitive package and exciting growth opportunities for career-oriented teammates.
  • A dynamic, action oriented, and thoughtful environment centered on always doing the right thing for our customers, teammates, and our other stakeholders.
  • A purposely non-bureaucratic organization that embraces simplicity over complexity and emphasizes individual excellence in a team framework.
  • Benefits that support your life and well-being, which include:
    • Comprehensive Health, Dental and Vision benefits
    • Disability Insurance (both short-term and long-term)
    • Life Insurance (for you and your family)
    • Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance (for you and your family)
    • Flexible Spending Accounts
    • Health Reimbursement Account
    • Employee Assistance Program
    • Retirement Savings 401(k) Plan with Company Match
    • Generous holiday and Paid Time Off
    • Tuition Reimbursement
    • Paid Parental Leave

The base salary range for this position in Boston, MA is $150,000 to $180,000 , along with annual bonus eligibility. Total compensation for a candidate is determined by their relevant skills, location, and experience.
