We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mainframe Software Engineer III to support a one-year project focused on maintaining and modernizing critical banking applications. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mainframe Software Engineer III to support a one-year project focused on maintaining and modernizing critical banking applications. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a strong background in legacy systems, particularly within the financial services industry, who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain applications on IBM mainframe systems using COBOL, JCL, and related technologies.
- Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and other engineers to translate banking requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Conduct code reviews, unit testing, and debugging to ensure accuracy and compliance with banking standards.
- Maintain and optimize batch processing that support core banking operations.
- Contribute to modernization initiatives, including data migration to the cloud.
- Ensure adherence to banking security protocols and regulatory compliance (e.g., RACF, SOX, GLBA).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in mainframe software development, preferably in the banking or financial services industry.
- Proficiency in COBOL and JCL.
- Hands-on experience with IBM z/OS and TSO/ISPF.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and risk mitigation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with version control tools such as ISPW or Endevor.
- Familiarity with CICS and DB2 in a financial transaction environment.
- Exposure to DevOps practices and tools in a mainframe context.
- Working knowledge of Agile or Scrum methodologies.
