Project Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated Systems Engineer with specialized expertise in the AIX operating system, automation scripting, and infrastructure support across complex server environments. This role requires a deep understanding of enterprise server configuration, script development, and network protocol troubleshooting. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience managing multi-server environments and coordinating with mainframe-based and distributed platforms. This is a critical position ensuring operational efficiency, system integrity, and proactive infrastructure enhancements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cron Tab Scheduling and Multi-Server Coordination
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cron Tab jobs across a 5-server AIX infrastructure.
- Ensure scheduling consistency, job reliability, and environment-wide synchronization for batch and automation routines.
- AIX Operating System Navigation
- Expertly navigate the AIX operating system for system-level administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Perform system audits, configuration updates, and environment health assessments using AIX-specific tool sets.
- Script Development and Maintenance
- Read, analyze, modify, and optimize existing shell and automation scripts to enhance operational workflows.
- Write efficient scripts using PERL and Bash for automation of routine system tasks and maintenance operations.
- WebSphere MQ Connectivity
- Support and execute WebSphere MQ connectivity upgrades, including integration with mainframe environments.
- Ensure stable and secure message queuing operations across platforms.
- File System and Storage Management
- Manage Volume Groups (VG), Logical Volume Manager (LVM) configurations, and file systems within AIX.
- Monitor and maintain balanced file systems, perform loglv configurations, and ensure proactive capacity planning across Physical Volumes (PV).
- Database Interaction and Support
- Possess working knowledge of IBM DB2 for general database monitoring, configuration validation, and log troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with database administrators to ensure system and data layer compatibility.
- Mainframe Interaction
- Navigate and interpret mainframe screen interfaces to support job monitoring, log review, and connectivity testing.
- Provide basic operational support within mainframe-linked environments.
- Network Protocols and Troubleshooting
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and firewall configurations.
- Perform root cause analysis using ARP table inspection, routing protocols, and packet inspection techniques.
- Automation and Shell Proficiency
- Develop robust automation scripts to improve efficiency of system operations and deployments.
- Utilize command-line tools for file manipulation, process automation, performance tuning, and system health checks.
- Proven experience working in a multi-server AIX environment.
- Strong hands-on proficiency in PERL and Bash scripting.
- Working knowledge of WebSphere MQ, including upgrade and connectivity procedures.
- Proficient in DB2 database fundamentals and operations.
- Familiarity with mainframe systems and command-line navigation.
- Expertise in networking protocols and tools for troubleshooting complex network issues.
- In-depth knowledge of LVM, VG, and file system management best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to automate system tasks and perform proactive systems monitoring.
- Experience with hybrid infrastructures involving mainframe and AIX.
- Exposure to enterprise-grade backup/recovery and monitoring solutions.
- Certifications in AIX, Shell Scripting, Networking, or IBM systems a strong plus.
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and change control procedures.
