Actuarial Data Scientist

Purpose

The Data Scientist will lead AAIS's predictive modeling efforts and is responsible for all Akur8 usage. You will be responsible for sifting through data to provide business recommendations and implementing insights.

Responsibilities

• Develop business recommendations and analysis of strategies.
• Develop and implement plans, objectives and roadmaps for data driven development projects.
• Develop and maintain Predictive Modeling policies & procedures.
• Research and develop Akur8 use-cases, including developing rating relativities/factors and developing loss costs directly.
• Develop necessary filing materials for Akur8 use-cases.
• Develop Akur8-ready datasets from existing AAIS databases.
• Provide leadership as a Project Sponsor for initiatives ensuring all stakeholder groups meet and communicate as needed, thorough planning is completed; retrospectives are held to ensure continual improvement in how teams work together.
• Work collaboratively to share insights and knowledge within the actuarial department and other functional areas.
• Support and provide guidance to junior members of the actuarial team.
• Serve as Product Manager for all Akru8 usage.
• Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Predictive modeling.
• Problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to make the best decisions possible given the data quality and time available.
• Experience or familiarity with applications or tools that aid data driven analysis and actuarial work (e.g., SAS, SQL, R, python, Akur8 etc.).
• Exceptional technical writing skills.
• Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way.
• Ability to visualize data in the most effective way possible for a given project.
• Strong collaboration and mentoring skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively across multiple channels and asynchronously in a remote-first working environment.

Requirements

Requirements

• Bachelors degree with emphasis in Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
• 7+ years of insurance experience and successful completion of ACAS or FCAS.
• Completion of CSPA, ACAS, or FCAS, a plus.
• Strong technical skills in Excel; proficiency in VBA, SAS, SQL, R, python or other database management languages strongly preferred.
• Management experience, a plus.
• Akur8 experience, a plus.
• Minimum travel is required for annual all-company gatherings or team design sessions (up to 5% of the time)
