Automation & Integration Engineer

Employment Type: Contract (3-4+ months)

Interview process: 1 Virtual Interview with Finance & IT Background Check Start

SUMMARY:

We are partnering with an Aerospace start-up client who is seeking an experienced Automation & Integration Engineer to design, develop, and implement automated workflows for collecting engineering hours and project allocation data. The Finance team currently manages this process manually, and due to ongoing CMMC initiatives and heavy internal project workloads, the engineering team cannot support this effort in-house.

This contractor will lead and facilitate the gathering of requirements from the finance team and will manage the full lifecycle delivery process ranging from discovery meetings, creating or developing solutions that fit the business & finance team's needs, and perform hands-on development of automated systems and/or bot-driven workflow.

This role is ideal for an engineer with experience integrating business applications, building automation between systems, and developing chatbot or bot-based solutions across Microsoft 365, Slack, and cloud environments.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct process discovery with the Finance team to understand the current hour-tracking workflow, pain points, and future-state requirements.

  • Design and build an automated solution using a portal, Microsoft bot, Slack bot, or custom application to streamline the hours-collection process.

  • Develop integrations between Office 365, internal business applications, and Finance systems.

  • Build and deploy automations using AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, Office 365 automation tools, or equivalent.

  • Create and maintain GraphQL API connections and cross-platform application integrations.

  • Utilize PowerShell and Python scripting for automation tasks, data extraction, and system interoperability.

  • Build chatbot functionality using Microsoft Bot Framework, Slack bot framework, or Copilot-integrated workflows.

  • Implement AI-assisted automation, including RAG workflows, where appropriate.

  • Work with Infrastructure only for minimal support needs-this role will run independently with Finance as the primary stakeholder.

  • Support testing, deployment, UAT, and process documentation.

  • Deliver a scalable automation solution that improves accuracy, speeds up Finance workflows, and reduces manual data entry.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Strong experience with Office 365 automation

  • GraphQL APIs

  • AWS Lambda / Azure Functions

  • Slack applications / bot development

  • Microsoft Bot Framework

  • PowerShell & Python scripting

  • Experience with AI-driven automation, Copilot, or RAG-based chatbot tools

  • Experience building workflow tools, portals, or system integrations

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Business systems integration in Finance, Ops, or Engineering environments

  • Experience automating manual processes or time-tracking workflows

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams (Finance + IT)

  • Prior exposure to CMMC or secure environments (not required but helpful)
