Job Title: Backup Engineer Commvault & NetBackup
Location: Spring, TX (Onsite)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Backup Engineer with strong expertise in Commvault and Veritas NetBackup to support and optimize enterprise-wide data protection environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring reliable backup, recovery, and data availability across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructures. This role requires hands-on troubleshooting skills, strong technical ownership, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet business continuity goals and SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain enterprise backup solutions using Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery and Veritas NetBackup.
- Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot backup jobs, policies, schedules, and retention frameworks.
- Perform routine backup validation, restore testing, and disaster recovery (DR) exercises.
- Work closely with application, database, virtualization, and infrastructure teams to ensure complete backup coverage and SLA adherence.
- Manage backup storage capacity, tape library operations, and offsite archival processes.
- Implement and maintain automated reporting, alerting, and performance optimization methods.
- Ensure adherence to data protection standards, security policies, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Provide L2/L3 operational support for backup incidents, escalations, and service requests.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of backup designs, workflows, architecture, and recovery procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong hands-on expertise with Commvault and Veritas NetBackup in enterprise environments.
- Solid understanding of backup methodologies for VMware, Hyper-V, MS SQL, Oracle, and file systems.
- Experience integrating backups with major cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform).
- Knowledge of deduplication technologies, encryption, data retention, and compliance requirements.
- Scripting proficiency (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for operational automation.
- Working knowledge of ITIL processes and enterprise ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).
- Bachelor s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- Relevant certifications (Commvault Certified Professional, Veritas Certified Specialist) are advantageous.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with tape libraries, disk-based backup appliances, and cloud gateway solutions.
- Exposure to enterprise storage systems and SAN/NAS technologies.
- Understanding of disaster recovery planning and business continuity frameworks.
