DESCRIPTION:

Reputed renewable energy developer is seeking a Lead Battery Energy Storage (BESS) Engineer to support large-scale utility solar, wind + storage, and standalone storage projects. This role is pivotal in advancing energy storage design and execution, working across project development, contracting, and construction phases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define optimal energy storage system sizing based on technology, cost, application, and contract structure.
  • Lead conceptual and detailed design of BESS and hybrid renewable + storage systems, focusing on lifetime value and cost optimization.
  • Conduct degradation and augmentation modeling for multiple storage technologies.
  • Oversee technical studies to ensure compliance with grid codes at interconnection points.
  • Coordinate Balance of System (BOS) design including civil, DC/AC electrical, MV, controls, and communications.
  • Select and manage specialized external engineering partners.
  • Review and evaluate EPC proposals and support technical contract negotiations.
  • Collaborate with procurement, development, construction, and operations teams to align technical and business goals.
  • Draft preliminary single-line diagrams (SLDs) and site layouts.
  • Provide technical support during equipment testing, commissioning, and final project handover.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships and assess new technology providers.
  • Deliver CapEx estimates and inputs for project financial models.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (IEC 62933, NFPA 855, UL 9540, etc.).
  • Contribute to internal technical standardization and best practices across the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Engineering.
  • 6+ years of engineering experience in the energy sector.
  • Hands-on experience in energy storage design, optimization, and value engineering.
  • Knowledge of battery storage and solar PV technologies, including integration with wholesale energy markets.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols and energy storage vendor landscape.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
