Position Overview:

Boys and Girls Clubs of San Leandro is seeking a dynamic individual to lead its innovative Best Buy Teen Tech Center program. In partnership with The Clubhouse Network, the Teen Tech Center empowers high school teens from underserved communities to explore and discover their passions through technology and creativity.

Participants engage in hands-on projects, including music production, digital art, robotics, animation, game development, and more, all within a supportive environment designed to help them pursue personal interests and develop their skills.

The Best Buy Teen Tech Center aims to foster a sense of belonging and achievement by providing resources and guidance that encourage self-directed learning. The role also involves community engagement, with a focus on building relationships with teens, parents, educators, and local leaders.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

1. Outreach & Recruitment: Conduct outreach to local high schools and establish strong relationships with school faculty to recruit new Club Members for the Teen Tech Center, building awareness of the program and its benefits.

2. Volunteer Management: Ensure volunteers are equipped to work effectively with youth, creating a welcoming and productive learning environment. Regularly assess and provide feedback to mentors to help them best serve the Club Members' needs.

3. Corporate Collaboration: Partner with local Best Buy Geek Squad Agents and Blue Shirt volunteers to support teens and facilitate their involvement.

4. Academic and Career Support: Help youth connect their technical experience with potential career paths in media, IT, and creative industries.

5. Technical Assistance: Manage basic computer maintenance within the Teen Tech Center and ensure all equipment is functioning properly and up to date, including troubleshooting, file management, and providing technical support for both youth and mentors.

6. Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of program participants and ensure the Tech Center is clean and organized.

7. Fundraising and Public Relations: Communicate the program's learning philosophy, goals, and achievements to external partners, donors, and the media, and assist the BGCSL Teen Clubhouse with fundraising and publicity efforts by showcasing the success of the Teen Tech Center.

8. Network Engagement: Actively participate in The Clubhouse Network by attending meetings, sharing best practices, and collaborating on joint projects with other Teen Tech Centers.

  • Proven experience working with youth, particularly in underserved communities.
  • Background in informal learning environments, with a strong interest in using technology as a tool for creative expression and empowerment.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage youth, parents, educators, and community leaders.
  • Passion for education and mentoring, with a commitment to helping others grow and succeed.
  • Commitment to the entire academic school year, including training dates, and availability for Teen Clubhouse closeout operations.
  • First Aid/CPR certification within 90 days of employment.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with using technology tools for program management, communication, and safety monitoring.
  • Proficient in managing data related to program operations and outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, OneNote, and Planner).
  • Strong knowledge of asset management, including property-related assets.

Work Environment:

  • This position will work primarily in a Clubhouse environment at the Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro.
  • Must be able to work regularly from Monday - Friday, 11:00am - 7:00pm PT.
  • This role may occasionally require flexibility to accommodate organizational events or deadlines.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-70 pounds (Support with a child that has fallen)
  • Occasionally may drive company vehicle for events and program activities.
  • Specialized equipment: Walkie Talkie radios for communication.
